Have anyone changed or upgrade their battery to Optima Red Top??

My battery died completely so I bought the Optima Red Top battery from AutoZone, this lady was helping me out cuz I needed to find out the size of the battery. The lady grabbed the battery and saying it's the right size but when I was putting it in it didn't seems like it was fitting. I'm just wondering anyone on here hav the same battery?? and wut was the size......the one I bought is 70/35/OR

I have the Optima Red. It is the 75/35. As you know it is smaller then the OEM battery, so I use the optional bottom hard plastic tray (the one they use to stack them up in the store and one inch in height) to get it up where I can get the battery terminals on.

I had problems with my yellow top.
Jegs let me return it for a red top and I got money back since the red is cheaper.
The red top beats the yellow in every category except it lasts a little longer with no altenator. The yellow is deep cycle. It is not meant to be constantly charged.

The red is a little lighter too hehe.

edit: here is one thread I had: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=135828

I use a piece of wood to help my battery reach the terminals better. :>

<---- Optima Red-Top

my battery sits a little lower than it did when stock, but everything connects fine, I've had mine for a little under a year - no complaints so far.

It used to be called the orange top. But now they have the same reverse posts for the red top. You see all the pics above. They aren't reverse posts. The negative cable would be stretched since the posts are towards the front of the car intead of back of the car. The battery itself is shorter than OEM. Two solutions.

1. Use the spacer that they give out for free.
2. Buy J hooks at advance auto parts. The aftermarket J hooks have more threads so you will be able to hold down the battery. You can chop off the top of the j hooks with a dremel if you don't want them to be so long.

How exactly is your battery attached to your car? Meaning, how is it being held down?

I have the Yellow top, had to modify the positive terminal slightly by extending it since it wouldnt fit over the terminal the way it was with the master fuse in it and all.

I've had the red top after my battery died and its great. No more dimming of the lights, and it comes with a gangsta 7 year warranty. The guy installed it for me right there and utilized the tray.

Oh ok...nice...

I just wanted to make sure you weren't driving around with that thing just sitting in the engine compartment. Gotta be safe, good to see that you are.

Its much cleaner to just trim down the j-hooks and re-bend them. This eliminates the need for a spacer and makes the cables reach the terminals.

when i had my maxima:

the 75/35 is the recommended size for the 5th gen. just use the red tray on the bottom and pull the positive cable out of one clip and it should fit without any other problems.

I don't understand. The wires come from BELOW the battery, so how would RAISING the battery help?

Why would it be desirable to raise the battery, unless it's simply for the expedient of using the OE j-hooks?
