Car in accident. Did it cause MECHANICAL damage? Description inside...

As some of you know, I was in awreck on Wednesday. So far, I have been back to the car once for pics, and the long and short of it is that the I30 SEEMS repairable.

Thread here----> http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....=1#post3288267

So anyway, in the accident, I was spun around BACKWARDS and I hit the end of a guardrail in reverse- but the car was in 5th at the time. I had JUST replaced my clutch this weekend, and I had just gotten the car (suspension and all) straightened out Tuesday night.

So the question is, is it likely that being pushed at ~40 MPH in reverse while the car was in a forward gear caused mechanical damage to the vehicle?

Thank you for all opinions.

you might have caused some engine damage.. the engine bottomw end and tranny itself will usually go backwards without problems, but oil pumps, timing chains, and the valvetrain don't like to go backwards. best way to find out is to try to start the car. if the engine runs and doesn't make any nasty noises, then you should be okay.. If it makes gross noises, determine if it's just oil starvation (it'll go away after a few seconds), or mechanical problems from damaging the t-chain tensioners.

good luck man.

THe car stalled when I was still in motion, but it has no rear wheel, so I can START it, but not drive it.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Is it likely that I did anything to the new clutch?

highly doubt you hurt the clutch. I'd be more concerned about the engine or tranny damage from smashing up any of the front suspension.

just fire the engine up and make sure it runs. don't worry about the rest of it until you have the legal issues figured out.

Yeah- I cannot buy it back and repair it, and i cannot talk them into fixing it. THe really bad part is trying to get the brand new suspension off of it. I also need my stillen RSB, FSTB, and all of my personal effects.

make sure you get a good valuation on it from the insurance company, because you'll need it when the lawyer has that ticket thrown away and the truck driver's insurance covers it.

otherwise, sheit.. sorry man. that sucks *****.
try to buy the car back from insurance as well and get all the parts off then. otherwise, it'll be a PITA trying to de-mod the car in the junk lot.

Since you won't be picking up my Cefiros, let me know how I can hit you back for all your help. I still can't believe this happened to you man. ****** terrible luck.

Well, I would only want another 5mt 4th gen, and after all of the $ that i just dropped into the I30, I will never recoup the costs unless i either buy another maxima/I03 and put in the partds, or unless i pull the parts and sell them. I am having trouble getting a time/place to pull the parts. It is a 2 man job.

I have to have transportation, and I cannot wait to have it rebuilt while I drive a rental, nor can I afford to wait and drive a rental while I look for the "perfect" I30/Maxima to replace it.

I am lookng at a 5th gen right now that I just saw came up for sale, but I am really bummed. Having spent all of this money and having it destroyed, then all of the hasstles to pull the parts really has be wondering whether I will mod my next car...

Holy crap. That really sucks. And you just put in that new suspension setup too (good writeup BTW). Glad to hear your planning on staying in the maxima family.
