A question about BCM (Body Control Module)

Is there any difference between a GLE, SE and GXE BCM? I have a 96GLE. I've posted on the Electronic section also.

Yes. The GLE and GXE are limited to Alabama and Ohio. The GXE is global.

How can the GXE be limited and global? I think he meant the SE is global. but that doesn't really matter since you have GLE. So basically you are screwed unless you want to drive there just to check. They have no access to the Internets there.

Well, I'm asking about BCM. Stay within the topic.

Is this a question about shampoo?

Is not a shampoo, is something you use to control your car's. For ex. Door locks, windows, defogger, etc..

Is it getting harder and harder to ask for info. Well, I guess i'm news here. (~260 posts). OR maybe i'm just asking a stupid question. Feel free to express

BCM seems to be chip related to the key, am I wrong? If I am not, then they would be on all those maximas 1999 and newer.....

The BCM is the Body Control Module. It controls the windows and locks and security system and other such things.

They have been in cars for a long time. I dont know which Maxes were the first, I'd guess 3rd Gens. 4th Gens were the first to use multiplex wiring where more than one signal can be sent down one piece of wire to save weight and space.

BCM (Body Control Module) is a master unit of the IVMS (LAN), consist of microprocessor, memory and communication LSI sections and has communication and control funcitions. It receives data signals from the LCUs and sends electrical load data signals to them. Reference to the 96 Nissan Maxima Mechanical Manual.

The BCM controls 5 units.

LCU01 - Driver side control unit
LCU02 - Passenger side control unit
LCU03 - Rear Passenger side control unit
LCU04 - Rear driver side control unit
LCU05 - Trunk lid

I think my BCM (located behind the stereo head unit) fried. I want to know if there's any difference with the 96 GLE, SE and GXE model. Given GLE has remote, SE yes and no and GXE do not have it.

I have refer to the manual and some of the symptons i'm getting is very close to the same result. BCM mal-function!!

- I still have power to the door. Light still comes on.
- I do not have control of the four doors. (open and close)
- All windows does not go up and down.
- Rear defogger don't work
- Key light don't work
- Step light don't work

All of these items listed above is control by the BCM. I found a BCM 96GLE in a repair shop. I'm going to pick it up this weekend. Hopefully is the BCM and not the 5 LCUs.

P.s. I know most of you guys hangs out in the OFF Topic section. i'm cool.

Are the part #'s the same between each trim level? That would be the biggest indication that they are the same.

Update:

I went to the shop to get the BCM. Went there and found out they have a 99 GLE. (Beatccch). I took out my BCM and compare the two unit. Find out the plugs are different. The mechanic told me to get a 96 GLE. (Great tip!).

At that moment, my HU is out and all the screw were all over my car. A bloody finger and I notice. My f@@king door light is working. I'm like WTF. I put back everything and everything is working. Happy day going home with my car and didn't pay a dime to the mechanic.

I figure the connection was loose or needs a replug and play. Not all BCM are created equal. If anyone fried there BCM, they need to get the same year and trim.
