Removing Duct Tape Residue

Well after my window regulator broke I was forced to close the window and seal it with duct. Now I have repaired the window and I would like to remove the residue left over by the tape. It is on both the paint and the glass. There is tint on the window and I want to avoid damaging either the paint or the tint. Are there any cleaning products or techniques that you guys recommend. Please help.

Adam

You taped on the inside??

I'd use goo-gone, but not on the tint.

I had too... it was snowing when I noticed. So it was wet outside and the tape wouldn't have stuck.

Don't use goo-gone on the tint. Buy cleaner for tinted windows (you should already have it! ) and soak a towel and hold it against the residue, then slowly start working it.

It'll come off, but it'll take a little time.

Thanks for the fast help. I will try that.

Raid the kitchen................

Go get the sunflower oil, soak the end of a rag and start working on the gunk.

Once the gunk is off you can use ordinary soap and water to clean the oil off the surfaces - no paint/plastic etc damage or discoloration - guaranteed!

Goo gone or anything with amonia (most household window cleaners) will eat away at the glue of tint. I just removed my tint and used amonia and windex to help get it off.

I work in a tint shop.. I would just soak it down with some water and dish soap...get a white scrubie or a cotten towel and rub rub rub...

What about Denatured alcohol. works on removing the sticky left over from a badge. With the use of your thumb nail.

WD-40 works great on duct tape goo, but I'm not sure how nice it is to the tint...
the sunflower oil sounds like a good shot as well.. pretty much any oil substance should work. as the goo peels off the window, the oil takes its place, then prevents the goo from sticking back on. eventually it will all come off. just be gentle and take your time.

smells good too

Skin-so-Soft. Wipe some on , scrub gently, wipe it off. Safe and effective.

To wash my tint, i was told to use mild dish detergent with lots of water. Worked well for me. However to remove that crap from the tint, i doubt the detergent would work.

Is goo-gone safe to use on paint?
