That's probably about right. I wished I bought an AE instead of the SE.

what is even more rare is convincing nissan to repaint your AE for nothing with a two year warranty minus the bodykit.

i have a very good relationship with my dealer but i went around them. i contacted nissan directly and pretty much just started talking about the paint condition. about two weeks later, they sent someone out to check it. they said the condition could just be handled by proper detailing which bothered me but i let it slide off my back. i got two shops to describe in writing why it could not be just detailed out. about 4 weeks later, they told me to bring it in to my dealer which has a body shop and they were repainting the whole thing minus the body kit.

I saw Two AE's at lunch today. I wouldn't car it a "RARE" car since i don't belive it was limited production like the VW R32, MITSU EVO or even the Subaru STI. Its more like how many people ordered that combination. Basically i remeber when the AE cars were released and you could order one so its not like they would run out. For example i have a 1999 Sherwood Green SE-L 5speed with ABS. Would i call my car rare? NO way i have never seen another one in person but its not rare. Just means very few people ordered those options.

yeah, maybe calling it rare is misleading. a better way of saying it is the AE was comprised less than 1/10 of total 01 maxima production.

IIRC during its release, Nissan said they were only going to develope 5,000 AE's 1,000 of which where going to be painted Majestic Blue. I don't recall how many they made manual vs. automatic, but for Maxima's the general consences is about 90% auto/10% manual.

Why wouldn't you be able to call the SE AE an limited production run? It was only available for one year, available in certain colors on only one trim level, and makes up a small percentage of Maxima sales for the year. I wouldn't call it rare by any means also, rare would be seeing a Maybach 62 in Sioux Falls South Dakota speeding down the road like I did last two nights ago

Unless it was Janklow....that wouldn't be rare...the speeding anyway... (Lived in Sewer Falls for a year while in school btw.) A Maybach would indeed be rare in SF.

I know there was a limited run of the AE's in Maj. Blue. And the dealer knew it too and charged a little extra because they couldn't get their hands on another Maj. Blue from anywhere in the country....according to them. My wife had to have the Blue. (Truth be told I love the color too.)

The AE is fairly rare. While I have read the R32 are a limited production, I don't think they really are. I have seen at least 4 running around here, and this is Tennessee, not too well known for "flashy" cars. EVOs limited?? I don't think so see plenty of those as well. The STi on the other hand could possibly be, I don't see too many of those.

I think a lot of manufacturers say they have limited runs just too add hype too car, "ohh its rare, must add it too my collection!"

Interesting about the Majestic Blue though. I don't think I have ever seen a Majestic Blue AE. My mom has that color on her '02 though.

AEs are fairly rare though, I only see about 1 or 2 a week, but you are correct its not "RARE" but about as rare as the 3 you listed.

if the car can be bought at any dealership or its just sitting in a dealership lot waiting for someone to buy it then it isnt rare. the ae isnt rare.
thats like me calling a 98 max that has cloth non-power seats, no sun roof, and then have abs rare.
for something to be rare it has to have some really serious things different from the regular car and tinted wheels and a lip doesnt count as being special. if it had a stock s/c to go along wit its lsd then u have a very speacial max.

trust me, when i was shopping for my car, there wernt many Ae's just "sitting on the lot" took me at least 20 dealerships in NE laughing at me when i asked for one. I love how some people on here take all words too literally. dont take "rare" too literally, they are not that easy to find. i saw hundreds of maximas before i saw an AE.

To all my AE brothers...they're just jealous!!

IIRC SE AE's only come in Grey Lustre, Merlot, Super Black, Sterling Mist, Icelandic Pearl, and Majestic Blue. Sherwood green and Sunlite Sand were the only colors that weren't available on the SE AE.

Did you pick this off a dealer on Weston Road for about CAD$ 13.5? If so you beat me by a hairline. I was chosing between this and the Pearl White Automatic/ I had to settle for the auto since my wife will be using this car as well. On;y thing modified is the intake and this thing tuns like a dream...

Only 10,000 AEs were produced. Majectic Blue was only availible in AE trim that year.

Number of AE 5 speeds is unknown but only 3% of maxima that year were 5 speeds.
