I had some 17inchs chrome 5-star looking rims with some 235/45/17 Falkens, which I bought about a year ago.Well now my tires are worn out with only about 18 to 20 thousand miles on them and they want another 500 dollars for tires, I not ready to spend that type of money right now(Getting married in June, buying house in May and also moving)so it's really not a good time to be buying tires...So anyway I had my factory wheels with my Bridgestone Potenza's 225/50/16 put back on and Ilove them.No more loud road noise.Rides better also---I'll be sticking with my factory wheels from here out also bridgestone potenza's RE910....Really love my ride now....

I wish I had your problem. I don't have the $$$ for new rims. I am running 10 year old, stock, scraped up factory rims. Oh well. At least they aren't bent.

You should have known what you were getting into. Usually, high performance tires wear out faster, although I would be happy with 20k miles on them.

I can agree with you on this. I have had 2 diff sets of rims for my Max. I still have them and now i want the "factory" look back. I have a GXE so i had the steel rims but i want the SE 5 spoke rims. I have a set of chrome rims which i always wanted but now i just dont like em anymore. Too heavy and too flashy for me. My other rims are MB Motoring 5 stars but that is my winter setup. I personally like the factory rims...the SE rims at lesat. I also like the Infinity thick 5 star rims. They are hot!

I would like to get the AEZ Bimo rims for my Max, though.
After reading everyone's comments here I may just stick with my 5 star SE rims now.

what do you recommend?

I have the stock 15" GLE wheels, but I want better performance. Would you guys then recommend 16x7 wheels over 17x7 or 17x8?

the bigger your rims, usually the heavier they are, the heavier they are the slower you go.

Also if you have rims with these high performance tires they recommend you have them rotated every 2500 to 3000 miles...I just don't have time to do all that rotating if you know what I mean.............

I like my factory wheels but I want 18". I know they are going to be heavier and the tires will cost more and wear out faster, but I don't care. This is a daily driver, I don't race people off the line or gun it at every light or take it to the track trying to better my last 1/4 time. If I eventually get tired of the 18" I'll throw my stock GLE 15" back on and the cycle will start over. I am planning on getting silver wheels with a polished lip so they will not be too flashy, just big. My $.02.

Later.

I got my AE wheels because I liked the factory look and I like the polished look too (it's not as loud as chrome, but a little different than the standard alloy wheels).

I guess it all comes down to your personal preference.

Im with Pervis... 10years old and scratched to ****.

Id love to get my hand on those new SE 5 spoke wheels. So if anyone wants to take pity on a poor college kid and donate or sell their rims cheap to me, I would be forver in debt to that person.

I took some pics of my factory rims, but I dont have a scanner. Needless to say...its a sad site.

I'm with Jeff...

But I'm in even worse shape. I'm stuck with the steel wheels for now. I'm almost tempted to try swapping the wheels from my dad's 3rd gen on my '99(They won't even fit, will they?). Anybody have some factory wheels they'd like to get rid of? And I'll pay for them too. Even the 15s(4th gen), I don't care!hehe

this is why I have 15 x 6.5"...stock...

size rims I mean if they where not good Nissan would not have put them on the car in the first place and also I run the factory size tire 205/65R15...beacause I live in a small town and if I get a flat or blowout I most likey can go right out and buy one...if you get 17",18",or,19" or bigger chances are you will have to order them and ride around on the sick looking spare....I get hated on for having my "small" stock rims but I say hey 15" tires are cheaper and easier to get than any 18" anyday...so I say again stock 15" is nice...

All '89 - 01 wheels are interchangeable.

A couple of months ago I needed new tires, and wanted slightly wider ones so I wanted wider wheels to make best use of the tires. With kids, a house and stuff I couldn't afford much. So I found a set of used SE wheels (1/2 wider than my GXE wheels) on ebay for $81. The kid who was selling them said he got new wheels because the old ones looked crappy (the clear coat had peeled off in places), but the car rode much better than with his new ones (could never get the new ones balanced right).
I scrubbed, sanded and painted the wheels. They look fine, run true, balance perfect and are better made than any aftermarket wheel for under $300.
For those of us on tight budgets, it's great that lots of folks are getting those "cool tuner" wheels.
