Optima red top. Why?

This is also in the 5th gen forum with no responses, so I figured a bigger audience might get some answers. I had my battery replaced in my 2k2 at the 46k mark. This is the wierd thing. I've had slight engine knock/ping for about a 1.5 years. I've tried everything with exception of new plugs. After the Red Top was installed, the engine knock/ping is gone completely. Can someone explain why? The car feels much better as well.

Are you sure it is not just in your head? A battery should have nothing to do with engine pinging/knocking.

It's definately not in my head. The knock/ping while slight was very noticeable. The car also seems more peppy. This of course could be in my head.

Does your car also feel fast after waxing, or installing any type of altezza lighting?

Could have just been a lucky day without the pinging.

Paradox Cefiro: Keep it up. I'm sure you'll get alot of help here on the org. I never said the car feels faster. I said peppy.

I would be more inclined to believe you bumped a wire somewhere while installing it, or maybe cleaned the battery contacts or something. The battery acts like a filter for the alternator's AC ripple, so maybe a more effective battery connection could promote greater stability in the voltage going to the coil packs or something. But that's speculation.

spirilis, I think you hit the nail on the head. The battery wasn't holding a very good charge at all and the contacts were a little corroded.

They are definately overpriced. I've just seen so many good responses from people that have owned them and it wasn't that much more than an Interstate so I bought it.

Your car has been pinging for 1.5 years? It still runs?

I also believed that the Optima gave my car a little more "peppiness" after installed. Its a bit pricey, but worth every cent. 7 year warranty (3 years swap, 4 years pro rated)

Well, I know you question has been answered, but it's a good thing to own a Optima red top. I had one in my other car and it was great (the red one is the highest powered one...) and my car can be sitting for a week and it will crank right up......they last a looooong time. Good luck with it. They don't cost that much anymore......

^....with the Optima....you car can sit for mor than a moth (in cold weather for that matter) and crank up no problem....I guess in Cali, you don't have an issue with extreme weather so, you can probably sit for a minute, but here in NJ and a car been sitting in the colder for a while, I know my past cars where a pain to get started......that's my point.

peppiness=interior lights do not dim everytime my subs hit...car starts up superb in sub 30 degree weather compared to my other batteries.
