This started about a week ago, I would be driving my 93 SE 5-speed, and after 15 minutes or so, whenever I changed gears it would rev up pretty high (4-5k rpm's). Well, one day it kept doing this on the way home and then finally it just wouldn't go into any gears, and it would just rev. It stunk pretty bad too, I assumed it was burning clutch fluid or something. We sent the car to the dealership and they said it was the clutch, and they "claimed" that they replaced it with a new one. Well, an hour after I got it back, it did the same thing! It just won't go into any gears, and it isn't in neutral either. Is it the clutch, or something else?

damn

that freakin sucks!
I don't have any idea what it can be, my car is an automatic.. it likes to rev up for no reason and hesitate between gears, upshifting and downshifting like crazy but I'm used to it.....
What you need to do is go back there and tell them what the ****? If they were sure it's the clutch and replaced it, but the problem wasn't solved that means they haven't fixed the problem and it's not the clutch... you need to go back there and let them know. I know the clutch is not cheap, so you might have wasted $$$ for nothing.

I wish I understood these VE 3rd gens better and why the hell everyone is having some kind of problem with them..

Luckily I haven't paid for anything... yet....

Well, I didn't pay for the repair (they did it to be nice :0) But either they lied and didn't replace the clutch, or else they DID, but they didn't have to, because that wasn't the problem. Someone must have an idea as to what this is... I can always tell when it's going to happen again when the horrible stench appears. I will never forget that smell, it just sticks with you for days.

Shep, did you go around town floring your car and down shifting abruptly right after your new clutch was installed? If you anwer yes then I would have to say that you really should not have done so because a proper break in of a new clutch is key and should not be taken lightly. Stillen sais a new clutch can last 5 minutes or the life time of your car. In any event good luck with your car.

Once I picked up my car, I pulled out, geared up until I was in 5th, and drove like that for an hour, and it died again. All I did was pull out and drive directly onto the major freeway here, no around town driving even.
