I don't think that will help. You need to drill a very small hole at the end of the cracks to stop the propagation of the crack. then seal the crack with some type of silicone to prevent it from filling up with dirt.
If the crack length is only abou 3/4", I believe most windsheild chip repair places will be able to fix it.

IMHO it won't. But I'm not an expert windshield repair person either. And if he puts a bunch of glue in the crack, how is he going to get it repaired?
I recommend he just get it done right the 1st time. It's not much of a cost (if any if he's insured). And it might take 10 min for the guy to do it. The important thing is he should get it fixed asap before the crack gets too long to be able to get repaired.
