I was at my Nissan dealer the other day picking up a part and checking out the new '01 Max when the salesman came up to check out my '93 SE... we started talking and he told me he had heard from Nissan that either the '02 or '03 Maxima was going to be fitted with the 3.5L engine from the Pathfinder. any truth to this rumor that you guys know about??

 

There is talk of a 260 hp Max, but I haven't heard the particulars. Who knows, maybe they'll go the sc route as they have with the latest Pathfinder.

 

They don't have an SC on the latest Pathfinder? They have the SC on the Frontier. The Pathfinder has the 3.5L V6 which is rumoured to be in the next Maxima.

The Maxima's weight would probably increase then, so we wouldn't get that much of a gain performance wise.

This was a rumor started sometime in 1999 just as the 2k Maximas were coming out. I won't think it's unlikely that the Maxima will get a more powerful engine, but I think it will closer related to the new Z's engine than the Pathfinder. It might be 3.5L, but the Maxima's engine will prolly be more biased towards hp than torque.
