Why is Maxima insurance so expensive???
Anybody know why my 2002 Maxima's insurance is SO expensive?
I recently got a 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Limited and it's insurance is
about $300 a year cheaper for the same coverage.
I also recently bought a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan and it's insurance
is about $400 a year cheaper than my 02 Maxima.
I just checked with my insurance company about what it would cost me
to replace my 2002 Maxima with a 2005 Mustang GT (yes, V8 and all) and
it was $220 a year cheaper than the 2002 Maxima.
All with the exact same coverage.
What's the deal? Is the Maxima headlight theft to blame?
Do Maxima's get stolen a lot? Someone attempted to steal mine
while sitting out front of my friends house...who has a 2003 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro that sits in his driveway every night and nobody has tried to steal it.
I'm baffled. Any thoughts?

By the way, I could replace my 2002 Maxima with a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO and
my insurance for it would be $88 a year less than the Maxima.
That's ridiculous that a boy racer rally car could have cheaper insurance than
a sporty family sedan!!!

wow, glad I don't have your insurance. I think I would check around, you might be able to get a better price somewhere else. I usually check around at least once a year, they are always changing rates and you might get lucky. I just bought my 2000 maxima, I had a 93 silverado, insurance only went up 60 bucks every six months, I was happy with that. You might consider asking them if there is anything you can do to lower the cost.

I've never found maxima insurance to be any more expensive than any other car. I went from a 95 civic to a 96 maxima back like 4 years ago, no appreciable change in rate. I pay $450/6 months for full coverage on my 95, I was paying about $520/6 months on my 96 but I turned 25 at the same time I got the 95.

27, paying $1k/year and $1100 on my 97 and 00 maximas. Deductible is $250 with high coverage. I've found the rates pretty good. Nothing crazy anyway. I was quoted on a spec v with a higher rate than on an 02 maxima, when I was thinking about those.

now now, thats no way to be. lol It might be that cheap for a few reasons:
1. driving record (hate putting that on here for fear of ticket or crash)
2. location location location. small town, hell, we have omish people who drive carriages everywhere. lol
3. not in Brooklyn.
4. I'm 32 sigh..... feel like an old fart compared to some of you.

I hope you take the NYS defensive driving course because you can get 10% off liab. and collision. But then again, your comp is the killer. Still, 10% is not bad. There are some pretty exclusive sections of BK, but the overall risk when you live there is much greater.

Well technically anyone over 25 owning a car is old by insurance standards. The rule is simple: Whatever you own, if you're under 25 and happen to have a d*ck, you're screwed.
And we all know your foot doesn't get less heavy after 25. You guys are still flooring it every day, admit it.

Hmm, the crash test ratings for the 2002 Maxima aren't that bad.
It got 4 out of 5 stars from the government test in all 4 sides.
I'm guessing as I kind of suspected that the high insurance rates are:
1. Stolen headlights
2. Stolen car
3. Possibly high claims for high priced parts.
As I posted MONTHS ago, when I hit a fist sized rock in the road, and it cracked my
GLE's stock wheel, Nissan wanted $625 to replace the ONE wheel!!!
If all their parts are that high, that might be the primary reason.
Either way, I can get a brand new car that's worth twice as much and pay
less than I do for the Maxima here in Los Angeles. Somethings wrong with that!

Racing should only be done on the track. Call me a big weenie, I don't care, but to each his own. I know the power is there and use it when I need to pass someone, but as far as flooring it, nope. I guess you can just call me putt putt..... lol
I have no desire to go any faster than about 75 mph today. Usually on the NJ Tpk I get passed by minvans with AARP stickers on the back, who go 80-85 (no joke, gray-haired people seem to feel pretty confident nowadays). It's not about being a weenie, it's about growing-up. I'd love to take a WRX STi up to 75, only in about 6 sec!!!!! *LOL*
