I have a credit at a speed shop that I MUST use. I don't need anything for the max, but I could use a radar. This place has jacked up prices, but I will make him come back down to earth. Can I get a decent radar detector for 200? I am very new to radars so If you could school me a little I would appreciate it

 

I wouldn't buy anything but an Escort Passport X50. There is a Valentine and a Bel that do well also but I think the Escort is the best. Question is whether the speeding ticket is worth the money. The X50 will pick up a cop 2 miles away on a horizon.

I think he's trying to say that a bad detector is worse than no detector. When you have no detector you keep your speed in check, or at least are more cognizant of police in the area. When you have a detector you feel free from it, and a bad one won't detect well at all, so you're just putting yourself in harm's way.

 

Get the 8500 X50 Escort. You can get them for $240 on ebay brand new. It would be worth the extra $40 trust me. Cheap radars now-a-days are not effective with the speed detection technology law enforcement uses. That is if its NOT instant on or laser
