SMC Kwik Shift
SMC Kwik Shift
Does anyone here know where could I get some replacement shift bushings that goes with this particular shifter. Mines brittle now and breaking apart, and the Nissan version doesn't fit to well. I tried to contact SMC with this following information:
SMC Performance Products
1705 N. El Camino Real
San Clemente, CA 92672
(949) 369-5223
When I called the phone number, I get the "This number has been disconnected..." jargon. Could someone please direct me to either some replacement bushings or have the SMC contact information for me. Thank you.

I bought their short shifter a couple years ago, and back then, they had gone out of business for a while.
I doubt you'll find one. You're better off making your own. Fool around with some polyurethanes and epoxies and I'm sure you'll figure it out.

It's not. Where people with the pace setter have problems with the shifter contacting the front of the shifter opening, or smashing knuckles into their radios, the SMC has the appropriate design so that it's basically shorter, with shorter throws, and adjustable throws, while keeping orientation similar.
I don't want to argue about it. Just go read the various (I've personally read over 10 reports of people with Pacesetter STS on 4th gens where the owner complains about their knuckles bashing into the dash, and the shift rod contacting the front of the opening).
Not all people that have the Pacesetter STS have this problem, i.e. JSutter. That just lends more credence to the fact that most Pacesetter stuff is made very poorly. Poor quality control is a good reason why many have had this problem. In fact, I've personally read 2 reports now where the Pacesetter STS snapped near the weld between the transverse portion, and the vertical portion.

Yes I am sure. In fact, I've heard very little about the Courtesy Nissan STS. I've heard lots about the Pacesetter because it's one of the cheaper ones, has been around for a while and many people have purchased it. That's why I've seen so much feedback on it. And again, just surf through this board. I'm sure you will find a number of posts reporting that the Pacesetter STS has the problem with being oriented too far forward. And if you search hard enough, you'll find the 2 threads where people reported the weld between the transverse portion and the vertical portion breaking apart.
Let me just reiterate. If you get a Pacesetter STS, it does not guaruntee that it will not fit right. I've just read enough reports about them not fitting right that I wouldn't recommend this item. As some have reported, their Pacesetter STS works just fine. Good for them. But considering you are shopping for an STS, would you risk buying one that is as notoriously poorly produced (wrong bend, weld breaking) as the Pacesetter?

I found my answer finally in regards to the whereabouts of SMC. After emailing the editors at NissanPerformanceMag.com, SMC is indeed closed down. The designs of most of SMC Kwik-Shift sticks were sold to PaceSetters in which they branded their product as Quik-Shift sticks. Now PaceSetter has "the exclusive AdjustaBall shift ball is made from Delrin" that SMC created. Therefore, if you bought any PaceSetter STS after 2002, it should be the SMC design, especially this is true for the 5th gen Maxima's STS at least.
