Well, while I commend you on your efforts, 99% of the population shouldn't even consider tinting, it is a very tedious and difficult job. Congrats on saving the money, hope it holds up. I used to tint my windows, and I'd get a few bubbles and sometimes I would have to do a window twice. I found taking it to a professional was the way to go, and I'll continue to discourage people to do tinting themselves.

as said above, for most people this still isnt a good idea, there are a lot of people, myself included, who just dont have the technique and patience to do this. congrats but i still dont think that just anybody should try this themselves, besides best part about taking it to a pro is that if there is ever a problem they will fix it most likely being as most tint shops these days offer a lifetime waranty. i know mine does...

i can tint a maxima in about 15 minutes.....
but if you saw it, you would laugh your ***** off!!!!!
It isnt that hard to tint, the hard part is getting the tint exactly right up to the seal and the edges.
How did you do the back window?

ok fine you spent $20, but dont you want the tint to stay there for as long as you own your car, or you would experience a pleasure in doing it all over again?

congrats on the self-tint. I am sure I can do it myself, but no where near 3 hours. It took me an entire day to remove all the tint I had. I paid 180 for the lifetime warranty and sparing the headache of putting them on.
Pics please!

I've seen a pro put up the tint in the backwindow. I'm in the process of getting some tint and help my friend with his car. Is a skill we all can learn. I thought it was a difficult job, but after seeing him with the tools and putting it on. I figure I can do this job and practice it with my friends window.

Anyone know where I can get a roll of 35% tint? I checked ebay and i'm not sure if those tints will last. Any suggestion?

can you explain this pro's magic??
ive tried the baby powerd and dryer sheat method and had no luck at all, it could be my heat gun.
But those 20$ walmart window rolls are only good for about 2 maybe 3 windows. Cause i know you didnt get it perfect on your first try so thjat leves you with 2......
Unless you have big gaps next the window seal.......

Just because it is hard for most of you guys dont mean its hard for everybody to learn to do tints, yes i made mistakes so??? After doing mine, im pretty good in doing tints, and NO THERE ARE NO BUBBLES, PICS COMING SOON!!
#23
Here are the reason I wont do it.
1. You can get a pimp job done for under $200.
2. I will leave it to someone who has done it hundreds or thousands of tims.
3. I dont trust myself to do it.
4. I am not patient enough to do it.
5. It will waste too much of my time.
6. Since it will do number 5 I go back to #1, #2, #3 and #4 again.

Show me pics in 6 months after the summer heat...
THEN tell us about the bubbles.
#27
as others said give it a year and see how well it holds up. i did mine on my last car and while it looked good at the time it looked horrible when i went to sell the car and took me longer to take it of then it did to put it on. watch for bubbles discoloration etc since you said you only spent $20 im guessing its only walmart or some other cheap tint. but as long as your happy with it it doesnt matter what any of us here have to say.

If you have no bubbles now, you shouldnt have any in the summer, i tinted my moms van (it was easy cause its van and its perfect.
What technic did you use to cut out the shape of the windows and how did you do the back window?????
cause thats the hard part, bubbles arent.....

trust me buddy, don't do it. You'll be kicking yourself when you are done. Unless you are like Makavelidadon and don't care if it last more than a year or two. Its really worth it to take it to a pro. But good luck if you do.

This thread continues to be worthless without pics. I'm calling BS on it. I had mine done professionally and I still have like four very small but present bubbles. These were pros that had done it hundreds of times before. Maybe your level of perfection is on the level of a three year old that can't draw within the lines.

I bet this guy tinted a tiny square on his window and thought it was easy, but then when it came to cutting the shape and the edges he gave up....
I can say i didnt get any bubles when i tried to tint my car,
but the edges had slight gaps next to the window seels, and the corners were cut right either. And i had 0 luck with the rear window , and i had a 3 milimeter gap around the edge of the small rear door windows.
This is the hardest part.
I tinted my moms rear quest windows which have no seal , and a rectangular and those weren't to bad.

3mm gap is pretty big...get a better blade and use a card to press down on the edge. with some practice you'll get it trimmed right w/o cutting into the weatherstripping.
seriously...i highly doubt there's a quality tint for $20. i use sungard which only comes in a 100ft roll...it never faded/bubbled on me.

Ya we tried to one peice it, we a old crappy heat gun and had no luck...
and the gap was maybe less than 3mm , it was just i alightned the tint wrong when i cut itthe egde was always slightly off, when i tired it the second or 3rd time, i had like a 1mm gap, but it still pissed me off cause light peeked threw....
