5g Maxima vs. Eclipse GT (V6)
#1
Had an interesting race today...thought I'd share:
I drive a 2000 Maxima 5spd, it's pretty much stock, probably making a whole 230hp from the stock 222hp. I'm driving around, minding my own business at 10pm at night (little traffic) when up pulls alongside me a black new eclipse (i first thought it was a grand am with the ribbed side-molding that the mitsu engineers thought was really nice). My car is slightly lowered (maybe an inch) and rolls on white 18s...so, I find people constantly trying to race me.
anyways, the black eclispe pulls up and starts revving on me. He's running on some larger rims and had an exhaust (could hear it) and i could tell it was a V6. So, i'm thinking it might be a good race, V6 vs V6, 5spd vs 5spd.
Now, I never thought the new eclipse to be fast (1/4 miles of mid 15s) and nor did i ever thought of it being competition to a 5g Max...but, he stuck with me. I was impressed. We were neck to neck in first, I grabbed second before he did and I lurched forward and wind it through, grab third and he was at my rear bumper. He pretty much stayed there halfway through my third gear then he lost about half a car length to a full car length.
I let off and we wave to each other and go about our merry way.
The only other time i had a run-in was with a chick on the freeway who was trying to race me, but, needless to say, she was no match at freeway speeds.
Thought I'd share.
PS. I don't condone street racing. It's stupid

Shouldn't a 5th gen. Maxima 5spd. pull away from a 5spd. Eclipse GT more than just one car length? I raced a silver 5spd. Eclipse GT before and beat it. The Eclipse was stock, while I had only CAI at that time. Yes, I beat the Eclipse, but it was close because I got an auto plus I had heavy stuff such as 18" rims, sub box in the trunk, and other junks in the trunk as well. The Eclipse guy was cool though, he wanted a rematch once he put a few mods on the car.

Stock for stock, yes, a 4g and 5g would pull on an 3g Eclipse...
slightly modified vs slightly (unknown) modified. Well, depends.
I ran a 14.92@93.2mph with 2.3 60' pretty much stock (i had 18s at the time)...never said i was a drag racer (as indicated by the 60 footer)... I think the guy had a bit more than just an exhaust though by the way he kept up .shrugs.

well, 5-speed Maxima is not THAT fast
I raced a 99 prelude auto from 15-120.
We rollled so that we wouln't have many variables.
Guess Waht!
It was neck and neck in first, AND second!
I pullled half car length by the end of third, and by the end of 4th I was 1 car length. and then we letoff.
I thought the margin should be bigger.
That auto prelude beats the Civic Si too.
We are all friends, so we race all the time. And the AUTO prelude is pretty fast. It beat my brother's auto 98 SE too.
