w00t Im prolly getting a Maxima!

Looking at a 2000 Maxima SXE (or was it XE?). Made an lowball offer for it, and theyre considering.

Has the V6 Motor (3.3L?)
fabric Seats
Full Power inside
Spoiler
BPEs
Black taillights
120k miles
They wanted $7495, and I offered $6k cash...he said He'd call me back once he talks with his boss. His boss said hed have to think about it, and if I could consider $6500 he would definitely sell to me.

This thing is ***** fast (especially for a first car). Very quiet. I believe they call it "Love at first sight".

Sounds like you are getting the rare Maxima/Pathfinder hybrid.

You most likely have a 2000 SE with a 3.0L

Because there is no such thing as a SXE Maxima, or an available 3.3L engine.

Nah its an auto...I wish its a manual...

but for the price, I cant complain.

I was going to get a flooded IS300, but It needed a new motor and possibly a wiring harness, and I wasnt about to go that route.

congrats if you get the max, and yes, stickies stickies stickies.....especially on the 5th generation forum. You need to check your coils though for sure, see if you have the updated ones or not. See if you can get the dealer to put new ones on if they are the old ones.

Im getting it from a used car lot. It was traded in about week ago.

The tires are GoodYears. I plan on getting Blizzaks for the winter and a set of 18s for the summer.

I will try to see if I can get ignition coils. If he dosent budge, how much are they to replace myself?

And oh yea, THAT IS MY CAR! $6500, taking delivery Sunday.

The price is right, but the mileage is way too high. I guess they come hand in hand. If I were buying a 2000 Maxima I would want it to have more like 60 K, with the major maintenance recently done, since I am a believer in buying low mileage cars. Why does the boss have to be involved? Obviously, this is a lease/company car and I wouldl really question how well maintained it is?

Get the radiator coolant checked as well as all fluids, ie. transmission, power steering, oil. What condition are the brakes in? I strongly suspect you are going to have to put money in this car.

Didn't mean to rain on your parade, lol!

ignition coils are about $52 each, so around $300.

Sounds like a good price. Mileage is higher than most 2000s, but if the car was treated properly its engine should have no issue at all with turning over for many thousands of more miles. I would say its high miles is represented by its low price. Honestly, if I was looking for a new car right now, based only upon what you said I would have no qualms in buying that one.

Do get it checked out. As rmurdoch said you'll need money in it, even if it's only maintenance, but any time a car is bought used the buyer needs to realize that it's going to need money.

Boss involved = company car? If so it's been ragged on.

G/L with the sale.

There is a wealth of knowledge on this site, most of it is true. take some time and study up on you car... it will be worth it in the long run. There are many threads about common problems, recalls, and good information in general that every maxima owner should know. There are many on this site that are very knowledgeable, so if you do come across a question in which you can't find an answer to in the stickys, then do not hesitate to ask... but if it is about "which intake is better" then prepared to be flamed.

Also, there are many great deals in the classified section... check it out sometime!
Enjoy the car (if you get it) and welcome to Maxima.org!

They will change the all the fluids for me (Coolant, Oil, Tranny, Brake, PS). They plan onGetting the car in hte air Thursday, so it will be done in time for delivery on Sunday.

The car is at a used car lot a couple towns away. It has been there for less than a week I believe.

Im assuming hte guy had to clear it with his boss so he wouldnt make the sale end up being a loss...

Now...to start ordering "mods"

Even with 120k miles, isint that price a little too good to be true? I would imagine that max to go for 8k atleast.

Price depends on the location. I hear 4th gens in the North East of the states are extremely cheap.

Dude take it easy, its only a car. Since you want a 5 speed, take your time and dont rush into buying the first "deal" you see.

And look for a car with fewer miles on it. Sometimes things happen for a reason.

Cant blame the guy for taking the cash, hes in the business of selling cars. You could probably get a great deal if you're willing to travel to North NJ, Maximas go for cheap around here, expecially higher milage ones. Or perhaps you could find a nice 5spd one here on the org, it could be tastefully modded too - just a thought.

Just look for a 5spd. You can probably get a loaded 4th gen for that money anyway. 4th Gens look better too
