Coil over weight VS spring and shock?
Has anyone weighed the two to see the diff, iam very interested. I would like to see a spring and shock or strut weight VS a real coilover setup.
The spring and shock can be aftermarket,i have tokico and H&R springs and im wondering what going with a good set of coilovers will do for loss or gain weight wise.
My car with this setup is higher than stock and sooner or later i will need a good setup .
If you have info please post if not please no guesses.
Thanks

I weighed my Eibach coilovers with KYB struts there 6.5 lbs did'nt weigh the stock spring and shock my coilovers feel alot more lighter than factory spring&shock setup thats a fact I picked both of them up, sure is lighter..
according to this site coilovers vs stock will save you 34 lbs

Japmax, 6.5lbs seems very light. Did you trim the spring seat off? I imagine thats a good pound or two but the stock system is at least 10lbs.
I'm also getting pretty bad on the rideheight situation. I'd like to get some Coilovers sometime this summer. But I have to get brakes too and get this blower running. Which first? Looks or performance?

I can't quote numbers, but I'm sure that any REAL coilover will be somewhat lighter than the facotry equipment.
my Eibach ERS springs weigh just a couple of pounds each, and the factory ones are at least double that.
several companies on the coilovers use aluminum shock bodies and spring perches. the factory steel stuff is basically twice the weight on those parts, but all the systems (except the FLT-A2) still use a 3/4" steel shaft through the middle, and a couple hundred mL of oil in the shocks.
I've seen Tein RAs and HAs for an S14 and they both still use a steel body on them (I'm sure the Maxima ones will too), so weight savings will be much less there.

FWIW, my Progress are 55lbs total with mounts & plates. (16lbs front, 11.5lbs rear ea). IIRC they were like 9lbs less than stock. If I get to swapping this weekend I'll weigh the stock ones.

sorry I forgot to mention I trimed some uneeded metals and the upper and lower support mount that bolts the top of the shocks I used the part that came with the kit which is alot lighter it's alluminum. (Eibach Ground Controls) Sorry for the poor detail but that's the best way I can decribe it.
