I got one estimate from a local welder, he told me about $800-1,000 for framing it and welding into place, 2" steel frame. The a body shop estimate to paint to match is around $400-600.

TOTAL: $1600 all said and done and NO need for FSTB,RSTB or RSB either!

Id consider this after seeing what a maxima looks like after it rolls over, OUCH!! the entire roof collapses into the seats, definitly not a pretty site.

Yeah, his car is only a 3 passenger mobile now. It looks really nice back there with the custom padding, but I couln't fit in the back. Front seats are still nice and comfy tho'.

Thats crazy. Honestly, I have not seen any Maxima or I30 fast enough to need a Roll cage. Not really what I would call a race car. Also, no need for RSB, FSTB and RSTB? Well, even if thats true, those parts cost car less? just my 2 cents.

i was just wondering if it was possible because i was thinking of doing the club races in the SCCA @ road atlanta and they require a roll cage.. probably not a good idea though for insurance purposes :P

I'm lucky ... the people who built the chassis on the racecar are like family! If I ever want to do this, I would just have them help me. I wouldn't be too excited about doing it to my everyday car though, you know? It would be a pain. You have to take out everything, weld, paint, replace everything....

its not necessarily how FAST you go on whether or not you need a roll cage.

many times its not for the stiffing of the chassis that a roll cage is put in, but mainly to protect the driver when he's out on the track. mainly AutoX or Open Track events.

as far as not having the need for the strut bar or sway bars, that's incorrect. just because you have a roll cage in the car doesnt mean the chassis will stop flexing magically. i mean. there are only 6 to 8 points of contact to the chassis, and to cure understeer on the car, the sway bar is a must.

i looked at I30Krab's roll cage and it's only the back half, and not a full cage. in case of a roll over, it would only prevent the passenger rear roof from collapsing, and the driver might be hurt due to no reinforcements in the driver area. i think mainly he put in the roll cage for his racing harness to be mounted correctly..

anyhoo. you dont need to blow $1200 for a roll cage, if you dont even race the car.

Well, that was my point, for driving on the street, no Maxima needs a roll bar, and its not a logical replacement for a RSB, FSTB, Etc.

Roll Bar

Just to set the record straight on my car,

The main hoop is welded to the chasis next to the B pillars. There are the horizontal bars that go from the hoop back to the rear deck and thru to the trunk. Also there are bars that go from the hoop diagonally to the center hump in the rear floor for cross stability, one on each side.
Since the hoop is practically over my head when I'm in the drivers seat, I would be protected in a rollover. Also if A car broadsided me, The hoop would also protect me because it is right next to the front seats. the bar that connects the hoop together also makes a great place to anchor the harness.
