Shifter Moved Forward! Help please?!?!?
Shifter Moved Forward! Help please?!?!?
Guys I need help. With the great help of fellow Maxima.org and SFMG members, we changed the clutch on my car finally. I have a 95 and I put a 5th Gen clutch, put MT90 fluid, the clutch lines were enver disconnected (the slave just got unbolted from the bellhousing).
When everything was assemembled again, I tried to move the car forward and out of the garage, but I could not engage 1st gear. This is when I noticed that the shifter's current position in Neutral is where 1st should be (WTF
). What could cause this? I can drive the car but I had to remove the shifter trim to engage 1st-3rd-5th. I'm thinking its the linkages, that I possibly did not use the correct hole to bolt the control rod's braket to the tranny. The actual shifter rod is in fine. (BTW, the rods were never removed from the shifter, just at the tranny). Has this happened to anyone? I'm sure its a simple fix but I just want to know what else it could be.
Thanks

Nobody has an idea? I can shift through the gears just fine, the MT90 took out alot of the notchiness. but its like the whole assebly of the shifter moved forward during the process of putting the car together. I'm gonna take a look at it again later tonight and see if I can find anything unusual.
only thing I can think of is you somehow (wouldn't know how) bolted the linkage wrong. I've only been around the trannie twice....my B&M moved the shifter up. The shifter it self was not moved?
Yea I have a CE STS, and that moved the shifter's position forward a bit. But they all do that, nothing major really. I didn't have time to check it yesterday since i got stuck doing other crap. Jsutter, everything looked even when it was put back together, but I'll give it a second look, one never knows.
I was talking to one of my neighbors about it and he said it happend to him when he put his tranny back on in his Civic. Told me to do this if everything is actually where it should be:
- You know how the STS at the botom comes up towards the FRONT of the car, then it bends BACK to the passenger compartment
- Rotate the shifter itself so that from the botom if goes BACK towards the passenger compartment and UP (rotate it 180*)
Kinda guetto... "but if it works...." LOL
96max2fast- nah man like I said, I never touched the shifter itself. I undid the linkages at the tranny

Loosen the 2 bolts that hold the bracket on the end of the solid shifter rod to the tranny, and see if you can reposition the shifter from inside the car. If it moves to where you want it, hold it in place and tighten the brack/tranny bolts.

Hey guys, thanx for the help, I fixed the issue today. Turns out that in the hurry to get the car ready to drive last Monday at 2AM, I made a boo boo. The support rod that bolts to the tranny has two bolt holes. Well, I bolted the upper hole where the lower bolt would be by the end of the tranny (right next to the fork coming out of the tranny to the control rod). That caused the entire support rod to til down like it was gonna dive into the ground type of angle...THAT caused my shifter to slant forward.
I bolted the braket where it should be and that did the trick :-D that you guys for the help
