AE shift ****

While working yesterday I saw a 2001 Anniversary Edition 5-speed in the neighboor's driveway (I VERY rarely see other 5-speed maximas, let alone AE's).

I took a quick look inside, and the shift ****'s top plate seems chrome. Yet, the AE shift **** I bought from the dealer has a silver/gray top plate.

Am I hallucinating things, or are there TWO versions of this shift ****? Silver and Chrome?

they come with a silver coat but mine began chipping away a while back. underneath it is a more reflective finish closer to the chrome. i just used my nails and attempted to scratch the rest of so it would match. after while, mostly with a manual, it will get rub off and you will be left with the more reflective appearance.

So do you like the more reflective finish more?

i prefered the duller silver finish but it looked bad when it was chipping.

use brake fluid to remove the "satin" finish off the top. you will be left with a chome look.

mine was dull with the shift pattern and numbers on it. Eventually it started chipping away even after the tsb fix for a new one.

I just scratched it off with my nails and wiped it clean, it looks polished/chrome now

Kinda hard to tell in this pic.

I sprayed a few layers of clearcoat on mine and it gave it the chrome look. Was not what I was expecting when I did it though.
