Shipping Rims/Tires?

Hi all,

I hope this is the right forum for this, if not, someone just let me know.

Okay, here's my question - how do I go about shipping rims/tires? mclee shipped a set to me by UPS about a year ago, and it cost about $100 for all four rims with the tires mounted. Now, when I want to ship a similar set, the UPS website tells me it's about $60 per tire. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Jack

What I normally do is pack them myself in a 25x25x25 box and take them to a UPS store. Normally each box will weigh about 50lbs and cost $25-$35 each to ship ground. Now if you have them box them its going to cost more. And if your boxes are bigger than what I just mentioned then its going to cost more...same with weight and so on. I've shipped for a cheap as $100 all the way up to $200 for a set of 20x10 wheels.

I use have used UPS for all my selling, but may try FED EX since I have been hearing it is cheaper. I have shipped several sets of rims and tires.

My local UPS store will just shrink wrap each tires seperately and send it like that. No need for boxes etc.. Now if the rims are high quailty and you don't want them to scratch simply cut out a circular piece of carboard and lay it over the face of the rim and shrink wrap them like that. Easy and cheap. Usually cost me 20-30 each tire/rim depending on where they are going.

Price will be different depending on how far your shipping, don't forget that.

I always ask for the cheapest which is there 3-4 day ground.

Never ship USPS, they suck.

Like Mike said. Sometimes sending (2) pairs is cheaper then (4) singles. I was especially proud of the packing I did on these S2000 rims. Strapping tape, lots of bubble wrap, etc.

Im currently having problems with UPS. I bought Carson's rims off of his 87 maxima from him just recently and UPS only sent me 3 rims and the forth one is lost somewhere and there is a current tracing on it. Im highly pissed as I was going to roll these to Maxus. However Fedex has sent me all of my items and I have received them on time. I bought a new FSTB and Digicam and both were here this week like the tracking stated. UPS also has recycled my tracking number of the lost wheel making it even harder to track this freaking shipment of my lost wheel.

Cut out 12 circles that will fit exactly over the metal part of the wheel. Place two circles on the face side of the wheel and place one circle on the inside of the wheel. Then, shrink wrap them fully all the way around, so the circles will not come off. Ship/pack each wheel separately.

Ship them via FedEx GROUND. It is SO MUCH CHEAPER that way. I have sold more than 20 sets of wheels on eBay and I have always shipped this way, zero problems.

Go with FedEx

Like Hamy said...Buy your own 25x25x25 box, bubble wrap and foam peanuts then pack the wheels yourself. You save alot of money by bringing the packages to the courier ready to ship. I [used to] work for a division of FedEx so I am familiar with the shipping/packing process. From my experience it's usually cheaper to ship the wheels in pairs instead of individually.

For example, 2 wheels in one 25x25x25 box and the other 2 in another box. 2 total boxes. They should weigh about 40-60+ lbs. packaged depending on wheel size, etc. Cost should be around $100 total via FedEx Ground depending on wheel size and destination. If you want packing tips to prevent damage, just ask.

I'm biased but I recommend shipping with FedEx. They have an excellent track record, very reliable and will get it their safely on time. UPS is a different story however. Because of the horror stories and the way UPS employees handle your packages, I will never ship with UPS. Check out this site which was listed as one of FORBES TOP 10 Anti-Corporate Websites...

Yeah, it's true about how the UPS employees handle packages. I have 2 friends that work for UPS and they say everyone is always throwing boxes around.
