auto theft statistics

Looks like they're pretty busy in the Midwest, namely Detroit and Chicago. If you buy Jackson, MS at the number 9 spot you need to go back to high school, it's a misuse of statistics. Remember, you can use statistics to your advantage, and in this case it's to demand a high premium of the insured in these small places, like Tacoma, WA. Notice Brooklyn, NY and Philadelphia, PA do not even make the top 50 cities. Yet those two locales are fully-equipped to chop and ship parts. Think your car is safe in those 2 cities??!!
Insurance cos. have the best statisticians/actuaries, they'll prove to you that your 98 Max still must cost you $940 to insure at 45,000 miles, when that's how much it was in 1998 at 0 miles!

All of the city people would be pleased to know that of NYC's top 25 most stolen cars, Maxima models take 7 of the top 25 spots. Funnier thing is that Maxima didn't make any spot in the top 100 for the national list.

Sea-Tac airport
Part of the reason why Tacoma is so high is because the car theives tend to float between Seattle and Tacoma ... the airport is in-between where there's a ton of cars just sitting in off-airport parking lots with very little security. I assume that if the area around and including Sea-Tac were in an incorporated city (and met the lists requirement for minimum city size) that it would top Tacoma. The auto theft rate on the state highway where the off-airport parking is located is quite a bit higher than even Seattle or Tacoma. There was a local tv news report on this less than one week ago.
