oh my wonderful leather...

Hello all. Extremely tired. Just got home from a long evening at the racetrack running my maxima for the first time. Anyways, my girlfriend was filling out my card w/ my info to race tonight and she left a nice un-capped pen in her pocket which got all over my leather seat... basically it isnt a perm marker, and it's just a regular BIC style blue pen but it did a nice dance all over my leather interior. i have some standard duty leather cleaner but it did not get the pen out...at this point she's set on buying me a new seat cover since this one looks like a nickel's worth of ****, but is there ANY way I can get this regular pen out of my leather without having to buy another leather seat cover? im sure it wont be cheap, and she doesn't really have the money to spare. Thanks, really not sure what to do

Timeslips later

I don't think you want to replace the seat cover--it doesn't fit right and my hunch is it messes up the side air bag and the cover on the backside of the seat. Mine were replaced under warranty because they cut the seats near the headrests at the dealership when they removed the plastic covers and I noticed 2 weeks later. The seatback would fall off after the job was done and I got tired of bringing it back after the 3rd time, so now you can see my lumbar mechanism from the backseat.

Hey, if you care about the girl the fact that she's willing to pay for it is good enough, don't make her pay (list is $566 for the cover alone, which is actually more than the seat itself) when she hasn't got the coyne to begin with...my .02

Now as far as getting the ink out of leather--I have heard these things work:

Hairspray
After Shave
70% Isopropyl alcohol (test first on a small area)

What you want to do is wet a cloth with alcohol, and rub the area with the ink. While the seat is wet, you take another cloth and wipe it so you don't leave the alcohol and loose ink there, you pick it up. Repeat until you get it cleaned.

NEVER EVER USE NAIL POLISH IT CONTAINS ACETONE

That's what I've heard, never tried it myself. Good luck.

WD-40 has been known to be a good ink remover on leather. Absolutely NO Nail Polish. Last, hope she's down on all 4's begging your forgiveness right now...

not sure of good cleaners but there are a few leather seat sellers on this forum that will make your leather 3 times better

hey everyone, especially frank...thank you SO much for your input on this matter. I used the Isopropel idea, 70%, rubbing alcohol. At first I was very skeptical about putting such a product on leather but I figured it couldn't look much worse. The ink spot then vanished luckily. It's not 100% clean but it's about 95% gone and is not an eye sore to me any more. I appreciate your input in saving me $550+ ... here's a few pictures of the finished product... also about 3 hrs after I removed the ink, I re-applied Meguiar's Leather Conditioner w/ Aloe to recondition the leather in the "abused" spot.

cumshot in my driveway...

and a little fun...

That's cool, I'm glad the ink came out.

Now your car's back to normal, and you found out that your girl is cool too. Nothing like a win-win situation....

I can sympathize...one day working on my audio setup, I forgot I had a screwdriver in my back pocket...long story short, sit on seat, lean over to reach something, screwdriver digs into leather and RRRIIIIPPP!

...gotta be careful!
