As some of you may know, my car underwent some problems about a month ago. I had a flywheel, clutch, pulley, y-pipe, exhaust, filter and my car was slower than stock (proven by the dyno on my site. I took EVERYTHING OUT and ran it at the track and i was pretty happy running 14.8s. Then last week I had my y-pipe put back on and ran 15.3s consistently. GRRRRRRRR How come it's slower?.... i dunno, i wish i knew~!!!!!!! Racetrack conditions?....pretty much the same with the air blowing in the same direction.......Driver error??....i dunno but my car does feel slower adn even my friends noticed that the 5-7k rpms lag a bit. NOW i REALLY wanna trade it in because i know noone can help me figure out the problem (if you know anyone PLEASE EMAIL ME). How much do you think the dealer would give me for my car if i put everything back to stock....Sorry for writing a novel but you guys don't understand how frustrated I am and how depressing it is to lose a car i love. *sniff*

Why not just take the Y-Pipe off and enjoy the max for what it is? I meen a 2000 Max is great car even stock, sometimes I miss driving a Stock car{No headaches+Warante}. In any event good luck.

Hey, I'm really wondering too, because my car was not much faster with the Y-pipe on my 5th gen either? But with my 4th get in was! I bought it because of the great improvement with my 4th gen, never really felt in on the 5th, and haven't given it much though until now!

Maybe because on the 5th gen it still has that one pre cat that the Cattman pipe doesn't remove?

If this is the case, I'm pretty upset too, as with adding a pop intake now, my car is only one or two tenths faster, if even that. Then again, I'm building up my Vette for Drag duty, but some how I'm really having more fun with the idea of fast 4 doors, as people don't expect you to beat them, as they do in pure sports cars.

The depreciation on a Maxima is so bad that it's really not worth it unless you keep it 4 years or longer. The first year the Maxima loses almost 5 grand on a base GXE, which is pretty unheard of. If you've got that money to burn, that is to pay 5 grand in depreciation alone for a year's driving, then why not buy a BMW and do the same thing? You could have driven that BMW for a year, enjoyed it over the Max, and lost the same or even less $$. Isn't there a guy named Russ who got a new car every year whose depreciation losses could have paid for a new car altogether? But I guess there's another saying that you can't take it with you so some don't car how much they pay as long as they can have the latest/greatest.

Optional equipment is worth very little when trading-in. Remember, a dealer cannot possibly give you more for your car than it costs them to get a new one, and they can't even sell the ones they have. So when they take a trade they do so in order to enjoy a huge markup. That car will compete with the new ones on which the margins are razor-thin. Just think, if a new 2001 sells for 19,600 base GXE, clears and all, how much would someone looking be willing to pay for a used 2000?

If you must get rid of it so soon, then I'd recommend giving it to a family member. If you're gonna lose big, why not make it someone in your family's gain? Then it's not really a loss to you after all. The only problem is the sales tax that you'll lose on when buying again, so why not have your family member split the difference? Tack on another $500. If the dealer is only gonna give you 14,500 on a 1 year-old with 12,000 miles, then ask a family member for 15 grand. Fully-loaded car adds $1800 or so. SE would be about 16 grand plus options.

If you still have the one precat, then your car is cail spec regarless if it's 97-99 4th gen or 5th gen. The exhaust system are very similar between the 97-2001. Y-pipe will increase anywhere 10hp-15hp on the fed spec. The number is much less for cali-spec. 5hp-7hp.

Well I told them it was NOT Cali spec. They said they don't have that part for the 5th gen, as it will throw an error code.
