Regrets

Has anyone ever done a Mod that they regretted????

In my case, this stupid grill took over my life for a week and a half, and it's still not right.

so far, the only 'mod' that i've been disappointed with was my (supposedly) white LEDs i bought for my corners and clearance lights..they turned out purple...but i was completely OK with it, cuz they were so cheap I still have yet to put my springs/struts on which has been my biggest purchase so far, but i'm pretty sure i won't be disappointed...

I regret doing the clearance light mod to make them brighter. Ended up cracking the lenses. But it's ok cause now I have Cefiro's.

For some reason the pic came out badly, the grills looks pretty good. Thats not the point, after looking back on all the time I've invested in it, It just doesn't seem worth it.

CE's clearance lights were ricey BLUE! wtf.

Starting to regret the aftermarket intake I put on Looking back on it, I did feel a significant lose of power after I installed it, but totally refused to admit it. I needed to somehow justify all that money and time spent. Anyways, going back to stock or hacked airbox this weekend......

my first set of rims i had for the maxima, turned out to be a waste of $$ on my part.
shaving the turn signals off my bumper ( stupied idea i got) and then ripping it apart to put em back in. and not getting a 5-speed in the first place cause down the road its gonna get me. and a few little other things.

I wish I didnt do certain mods, but I would go as far as regret. Well maybe the blue leds in the guages, bought the wrong kind and I have hot spots, doesnt bother me that much but wish I had purchased the right one in the first place.

Most people would lament their mods if they actually sat down and figured out how many hours at work it cost them for that extra 3 HP and how, exactly, is it really enhancing their life?

Bah, it's a hobby. Shooting guns, drinking beer, watching movies, playing cards, sleeping in. It's all the same -- you can look back and think you are wasting your time, but really it's what makes your life interesting. Find something (or a variety of things) you enjoy and do it. You can't spend all of your time with your family or volunteering at the homeless shelter. Most people would go crazy otherwise.

I don't think there is too much I regret. Having an older car that's paid for makes it easy to justify buying a few mods here and there instead of having a payment. My car gets 30 mpg, is pretty reliable (knock on wood) and gets quite a bit of looks, questions and people saying "nice car."

I would like to have the light blue pinstripes the first owner painted on removed.

I'm pleased with pretty much all of my mods, and I've reached a good stopping point I believe. The majority of my time, energy and money now are going into my Camaro project. Will end up putting a lot more smiles on my face I'm sure.

Only mod i should have bought is my y-pipe and my system.

everytime I spend money on my car and then go to work at see that new E90 330i I start to think that no more money will go to my max...... then I start thinking, hmm this 3 is going to be almost 45000 dollars, I cant afford that!!! So I start working on the max again.... But I have to admit, this is a sexy car

It's cool, I get the same effect when I see pictures of myself, so it must be the pictures adding 25lbs and making me look older... Overall, I still think your car looks great...

To you guys that are Boosted and saying you regret it. Think about it for a second... everyone and their grandma can get a "fast" car that's stock. You guys that are boosted are probably running 13's for 1/4 miles if not faster, that says a lot. You see your car is a part of you, and if you are unique and can afford to make your car unique then it will be different. If you guys like attention, the thrill, or the pride of ownership than I can easily see spending $15K+ (of available or disposable) income. To me I'd much rather have a say slightly older car because for some reason I like them so much more. I'd rather have a '91 300zx TT than a '05 350Z, I'd rather have a 4th Gen. (that's modded ofcourse) than say a 6th gen. If a new car say costs $35K, and you bought your 4th gen for say $8K... that leaves you with atleast $30K to play with. Imagine all that you can do with that, you can get boost, all the luxuries like TV's systems etc, and still get 10x more attention than a new BMW or whatever. Maybe it's because I'm young and I love the thrill of a uniquely modified car, but give me a older RX-7, or WS6, or 300zx TT, or MKIV Supra, boosted 4th or 5th gen Max, and I'll be in heaven. New cars in stock form can get boring, from my experience once you start modding, it's a BAD ADDICTION you always want more! And you will do anything necessary to get more mods. LoL trust me... I tell you from experience.

I'd still rather spend 15K on a 10K car and make it run 12s than spend 40K + 15K on a new car to make it run the same. Cars from the last 5-10 years were designed WAYYYYY ahead of their time. Look at the NSX, 300ZX, Supra, 4th Gen, Legend, they still look absolutely gorgeous, and 10 times better than 85% of new cars out there. AND perform the same if not better!

trust me man, it is way more expensive than you think. The nsx and supra alone go for $35k+ stock. The 300zx can be had for cheap but if i were to do the car like i want(new paint job, interior, +all the go fast goodies) you are easily looking at a $40k project.

I would rather just buy a used G35 coupe and buy some volk wheels, coilovers and turbo kit+other required goodies and be done.

Thats a nice thought, but I don't think we are ever done. Regardless of which car any of us own, It's to tempting to not get rims, a system, suspension, etc.... maybe there is some thing wrong with us????? example: I am getting married in 2 weeks (for any one who has been through it, it gets VERY expensive) saving for a house, and paying for school, but for some reason, even though I can't afford them I find myself LUSTING over these rims...I want them!!!!

I think I need counsiling......

I modded my wife's car with 18's - will be trading down to 17's (they are too big for her). Also modded the exhaust, but will be putting back on a normal B pipe. Too loud for her. (Sigh). No more modding the wife's max... I'll stick to my '03 TE.

I regret not getting coilovers instead of B&G/AGX. I also now regret buying my intake mid-pipe since the consensus seems to be that it does absolutely nothing.

Its the american state of mind of wanting more. When we pull up next to somebody and we check out each others car, we are mentally noting who has more horsepower, torque, sound, "bling" etc. We are in a constant state of wanting more than everyone else.
