Go to www.car-stats.com and search for 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Of course, the 5.5 Gen is faster. Any moron knows that!

Yes, the 5.5th gen Maximas are faster stock. Just be careful what you say on here as personal threats and attacks can result in a ban.

Depends... depends on driver, mods, driving conditions, whether one car has tires or not, etc... under what exact conditions are you referring to?

Yeah, it's only rumor that no 2k0 or 2k1 has ever run a low 14 in showroom stock condition.

If he knew anything about acceleration/torque/hp/power to weight/area udner the curve etc, dynos for DEK's, VQ35's, the ansewer would've been simple.

His logic, I think, was more along the lines of a similar comparison, DE vs DEK (3.0L) Where the DEK has 32-37 more hp, but is only marginally, if any, faster .... Not in this case.

HP and Torque numbers really don't mean much anymore. I think Nissan rounds up... to whatever they think they can get away with. My dad has a 2002 SE Auto and I have a 1997 SE 5-speed and I am dead even with him up to 90 from a stop. Even when we switch drivers we get the same result. Granted I have a 5 speed and he weighs just a little more, It doesn't seem like his car has 65 more HP and 40 more torque then mine. I think Nissan is starting to BS us.

If you're both stock, something is wrong with your dad's car...

Edit: Actually, I take that back. Good driver in a 97 5-speed isn't as slow as I thought.

y-pipe, short ram intake, short shifter helped out a bit, fidanza flywheel as stated before lowered on tokicos and maxspeeds which also helped believe it or not. Toyo rubber has helped too.

Sounds good. Have you taken it to the track?

Does anyone else think Nissan is just making up HP and TQ numbers nowadays?

I still feel its not fast enough for the track so, no I havent. I feel kinda weird bringing a sedan to a track amoung all the true sports cars. I feel the max is a great car for daily use and to add a few mods here and there to make yours unique and enjoy driving it but track racing is not my thing with this car. Just a few empty road races at 2 in the morning once in a while.

Take a ride in a 5.5 gen 6-speed and all that doubt will be put to rest. Trust me...

a 5 speed 5th gen is strong competition to a 5.5 auto off the line and probably up to 80-90 mph. It's on the highway where auto's shine that the 5.5 should take a 5 speed 5th gen. 0-60 i wouldnt be surprised if 5 speed 5th gen is faster but once it approaches high speeds, the 3.5 liter helps bring the auto 5.5 back into the race. If up to 120 i wouldnt be surprised if a 5.5 auto wins.

If you go through the posted 1/4 times, 5.5 gen is slightly faster (seems like only about 0.2 seconds) for same set ups, auto/manual, either stock or moded... So it could very well be drivers race...

Pardon me but i don't know of any 5th gen autos running high 13's and trapping over 100 MPH with bolt-ons and tuning on street tires. There have been quite a few 5.5 autos though...

Sounds like you 5th gen owners are just bitter. Mod for mod the 5.5 gen with a good driver will be faster. Let's not even start with a manual vs. manual comparo...

No disrespect intended to 5.5 gen. Like I stated, looking at 1/4 times 5.5 gen is slightly faster on average considering the same set up... All I meant to say is, given the small advantage of 5.5 gen, that a good 5th gen driver may be faster than a lousy 5.5 gen driver...
