Shaving the handles can be accomplished several different ways. A good body shop will cut the area around the handle and use steel plates matched to the size of the cut, and weld them in and then sand and smooth things out. Other places have been known to use "bondo-type" compounds to fill in the area where the handle was removed and this is and easier process than welding, but does not turn out a good final product. Often times under extreme heat or cold where the metal expand and/or contacts, the filler material expand and contracts at a differnt rate than the surrounding door. This means that the filler material sometimes cracks and breaks. On a third gen, this process may be more difficult than other cars due to the handle being so close to the edge of the door, and the lines around the handle extend to the edge off the door, so I am not sure how this would be handled. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!! That must be known, because with the right amount of $$$ a good body guy can do anything you can dream up. As for wiring and relocating locks and solenoids, that is a whole other topic that can be handled in dozens of ways. Hope this helps.
