steering--EPS

Does anyone know how EPS works? I believe it is a term that we are hearing more and more of now. As we all know, many base-model cars now have traction and stability, and those systems involve drive-by-wire and sensors. Apparently the EPS systems also have sensors monitoring steering input.

My g/f and I drove a 2k6 Chevy Cobalt over 1600 miles. I've been harping for years about how good the steering is on a Chevy Cavalier, well the Cobalt is a joke. I kid you not, its steering is pseudo 3-Series.

If it's the EPS that causing such a nice steering feel/response, is it in the pipeline for Nissan.....
