Serious insurance question about who would cover damage

I have a problem.. My Max was dented several times on the hood and roof due to some black walnuts falling.. now i have parked cars in this same spot for 7 years and never had this happen.. but this week we had a severe wind and the next day i saw these things had pummled my car.. now.. who do i talk to on covering the damage my home owners insurance or my car insurance.. i have to call one of them monday..

i took the car to a body shop and they estimate close to 1700 in damage on just the roof and hood... close to 800 on the fender and driverside door... but they said its high do to they would replace the hood all together.. then blend the paint and all that...

so anyways who do i call? and would they actually cover this??

HI, I would say your Homeowners Insurance. Your car insurance I think you would have to pay your deductible, whatever that is. My best guess is your Homeowners.

I think i'd rather go to the car insurance company to avoid making a claim against your homeowner's policy. save the homeowner's policy for when you have a real emergency such as flood or fire. from what i've been reading about the hurricane damage down south, insurance companies pretty much drop anyone who's made a large enough claim against their policy so i'd be afraid to file a claim unless i really really had to.
like the shop said, the best bet is to replace all the body panels. not sure what they'd do about the roof though.

i never did care for walnuts.

how bad it the damage? can't you just take it to a paintless dent repair shop? it's hard to believe that these walnuts really did that much work... pics??

If you have ever seen Black walnuts.. they start out the size of limes with a almost rock solid core that needs a vise to crack them to get the walnuts out... if it was my tree i would chop it down in a heart beat.... there are several dents on the hood.. and the largest dent is right next to the rear driver side door were it looked like it was hit with a baseball... the dents on the door and fender are not as bad..... im not parking in that spot again... and i will call my agent monday to see what he says about it.....

if i can i will get pictures

Thanks for the info

If it's not your tree, go to your auto insurance and let them handle it.

This is covered as a comprehensive claim through your auto insurance. So whatever your comprehensive deductible is, that’s what you will end up paying. This is the reason I keep my comprehensive at a 0$ deductible as this encompasses damage of this nature as well as vandalism, rock chips, ECT. Good luck.

Yup. "acts of god" are considered under comp coverage... assuming you have it.

Avoid insurance, get a quote from the paintless dent removal place. We had one fix hail damaged 04 Maximas at my dealerships that I used to work at and they came out fine.

Well i called the insurance company and they had an adjuster come out and look at it..
Never had to actually use my insurance ever so i am not sure what will happen... I also found out that my deductable is only $100 so that is good. The guy who owns the tree said that he will pay for the extra if the insurance does not cover all the repairs... nice but i am not sure i trust that.. we will see

Thanks guys for the info

How about you tell the guy to cut down the damn tree instead of paying for part of the damage.

Given this is a claim on your comprehensive insurance, it should not affect your coverage or premiums going forward. This is a prime example of why you should always have comprehensive insurance with a low deductible.

This incident obviously would not be covered under household insurance. Household insurance might cover theft of a bunch of CDs from the car, if the insurance company only covers 1 CD, as some used to do.

Lucky you I got an estimate for my roof alone, and it's over $2300
