I have a question..I have a 2000 maxima gxe with 158,00 miles..whenever i put it on park or neutral the car makes a shuttering noise (whining) from the engine area..and then it shutts off, but when it's in drive it drives with no issues what so ever and very smooth, any input would be greatly appreciated..and do you guys think my car may have problems passing emissions with this problem?

Suggestion - Title your threads better so people can see what your problem is.

That is a strange problem, try cleaning your idle control valve. Is your check engine light on and does it turn on when you turn the ignition to the on position?

 

Ok..thank you for the suggestion on the title of the thread...and yes when i put the ignition to on position the check engine light comes on..but when the car starts it's off, and when the car stalls, the light comes on.

hmmmm............if you got a warenty bring it back to the dealer and let him deal with it. i had a few problems as well and he fix them for free

 

actually i bought this car from ebay...for $3900 only problem that i knew of it, was bad rotors and brakes..this is something new it has just developed....and it was as is..
