Spark plug problem and Compression results!!!!
Well I started to remove my spark plugs to do a compression test. I removed plug in cylinder 6, 4, but when i went to remove plug in cylinder 2 the socket does not grab the plug, it is extremly confusing because all it does is just spin in place. we thought the plug was spinning in place cuz maybe the thread on it is gone, but then we looked inside with a flash light. and it seems as if the spark plug does not have the hex thingy for the socket to grab onto(from wat we could see, but unclear). its really hard for that hex portion of the plug to just disappear like that, unless it is there and the sparl plug is just spinning in place wen we try to unscrew it. can anyone give me any ideas? by the way the compression for the rest of the cylinders were all within 200lbs. why is it soo much, is that bad?
Your compression with 200lbs sounds about right and actually excellent for the 1997 motor. Regarding the plugs, if you were able to remove plugs in some cylinders than the others should be the same unless the heads are screwed up. In that case, you could try using a non-hex socket like the ones with less gripping angles (I am sorry, I cant remember the exact word for this). When you buy sockets, you'll see this written on the box on how many *grooves* it will have. I had a bad axle screw and thats what helped. Ofcourse deep sockets are little harder to find (rental cummins).
well i just realized that i did compression test without WOT!! how bad would this make the result inaccurate? and also. how can the heads get screwd up though iv never touched the plug from the time i installed it?
but it was already loose when i tried to remove the plug in the 1st place. i dont see how the hex woulda broken on its own. this is werd as hell. if the hex is infact broken. wat can be done to take the plug out? my friend sober told me a good idea. to get a socket(that i will trash) and put jbweld in it, then put it to the plug and let it dry. then just try n remove the plug again. u think that'll work? its very risky though
man if the hex part on the plug if broken off, the only way to get the plug out would be removin the head and use a vice grip from the combustion chamber side of the head on the plug and turning it from there, drilling it out is possible but too risky, lol.
Try the jb weld idea after all other resources have been thought of and tried, cus if u try it and it doesn't work, u'r gonna have a stuck spark plug with jb weld holding it there, lol.

nope. thats why i think its the hex. either something built up on it and it cant get the socket in. or dont kno. its driving me crazy trynna come up with a logical explanation. unless somehow the hex is spinning? but i dont see how
LMAO. i found the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this damn piece of rubber in there. i still have no clue where the hell it came from. it looks like the lil rubber rings that are on the valve cover bolts. took it out, took out the plug. and now im happy lol. still gotta do the compression correctly though.
The little rubber thing probably came out of the inside of the spark plug socket. They have a round rubber ring in there to hold the plug in the socket while you are removing it or to hold it in the socket while you re-istall it.
