water inside on the passenger floor

Uh-oh, I said let's play the how much and how many hours for a new heater core game. When I got to work today, there was a puddle on the passenger-side floor mat. Hmmm....but the puddle seemed to be water, not oily or smelly like ethylene glycol. Was a busy day so no time to bother with it. When I left work, I dabbed the liquid and it seemed to be water. Underneath, near the blower fan, there was dampness. Drove home, nothing abnormal, no more water.

The only thing I can conclude is that on the way to work the place under the wipers where air is sucked-in was completely frozen, and it was raining. So perhaps somehow water was forced where it shouldn't go. Not sure, never experienced that in any car, mine or rentals.

could simply be water in the vents from stuff getting into the cowl vents at the bottom of the windshield.

this is the third story of this I've heard to day in fact...

but keep an eye on it and make sure it's not antifreeze. if it is, you'll know it and you'll need to get it fixed ASAP. at minimum you'd need to bypass your heater core by rerouting the hoses under the hood until you have time to fix it.
pulling the dash and replacing the heater core is NOT fun. complete weekend project.

The only one's I've done were with my grandpa, both 80's Swedes--Saab and Volvo. The Saab was ridiculous, I think by the book was 9 hours. On the Volvo (200 Series), I remember he had gotten some unauthorized instructions by mail (no web back then) and we took a hole saw and drilled right through the side of the console under the dashboard plastic, of course. Supposedly that procedure saved about 5 hours. I don't even want to know what Nissan charges, and I thought modern heater cores were kinda like radiators now, they can use other materials so they don't fail as quickly as they used to......

Since the Maxima gets to stay outside ever since the new baby came, I noticed this am the hood can no longer be supported by the struts with a tad of ice on the hood. Nice, this Maxima is something else!

If it's just water, it's a good chance that the drain for your A/C condensor box is plugged - it happens. The coils are just to the left of the blower motor. The coils pull water from the atmosphere when they cool air, and the water level can build up to the point it sloshes out when you're driving if the drain is plugged. If you aren't getting any puddles of water under the car when the A/C compressor is running - I'd say it's almost definite. I'd definitely check it before pulling your dash out. Good news is it's a 5 min fix - crawl under the car, take a screwdriver, and very carefully push it up the drain to clear any blockage - then you're done.
