Quote: Off Topic a bit but is it just me but does the VQ35DE not sound as good under heavy acceleration as the VQ30DE it replaced?
The 3.5 absolutely owns the 3.0 in the sound department. Nobody's going to argue about that.

Quote: the 3.5 in the Z's blow sometimes?
Yes when their owners throw on Twin Turbo kits without proper tuning, keep very aggressive timing, get greedy with the boost, and proceed to race the hell out of it.

I don't see anything wrong with that

I agree. most of the 350Z guys really don't know what they're doing because the car is a newer design. They don't have the tilley's, Mardigras, or Requim's we have.

The other problem is that our ECUs are notoriously uncooperative and hard to tune.

Still, other great and similarly intelligent methods to blow your 3.5's include getting an 8500 rpm fuel cut, shoving the needle in the rev limiter for 6 minutes straight, running a 350 HP shot of nitrous, driving through a 2 feet deep water puddle with a true CAI at 6500 rpms, doing 100,000 mile oil change intervals and other fun and educative ways to look like a total moron.

Maybe yours claw but I've never heard a decently tuned 350Z or 6th gen.

They sound limp and seem to stutter when hitting the gas hard.

I'd really appreciate if you could put up a link of decent sounding VQ35DE - I know they're out there - just not in Auckland.

Anyway - it's all Skylines, Sylvias and 200SX's over here...no one tunes the 350Z here. Too heavy for drags and too old man looks for the average kiwi-ricer tastes.

Us poor, deprived US folks don't have Sylvias and Skylines. The 200SX's don't have enough power for us, so we screw around with Z's and G's! Plenty that sound good on this side of the big pond! Why don't you come out to one of our meets and see?

I'd love to come to a US meet! Totally different level of Maxima modding...I'm fairly stock (SMX) and I get looks because no one mods Maximas over here...

Each country has its own ups and downs car-wise. You have much cheaper mods for all cars (especially Maximas! ) and heaps of them but we have the ricer snail coupes that you lack...emissions I think.

All FWD VQ35's with headers seem to sound like that. It has that distinctive sound. I dunno, it doesn't sound like any other engine. It's unique.

Another cool vid is the one from NPmag with the Alti w/cams.

The car tested in that application every year...not a maxima. But your right the VQ is an amzing engine. The top end isn't those, seriouly the Z or G35 compaired to other cars in its class doesn't have the best top end

nope my 97 is the last maxima i will own, i plan on keeping it forever, so when the 3.0 bites the dust o , i dunno, at 650,789 miles, then by then the 3.5 swap will be cake and will just follow the vq wizard swap instructions and toss one in. 4th gen = greatest maxima of all times !
