i bough a can of rubberized undercoating. i've heard that spraying your wheel wells will stop some road noise...is that true?

if yes, then how should i spray it? i don't want to go through the hassle of taking off the wheel ...could you spray with the wheel/tire still on?

Not sure about it eliminating much road noise but the stuff can get rather messy. I used it on my old Pathfinder and I advise you to take the wheels off or at least cover them well. I would definitely mask off the painted part of the fender if you plan on spraying the entire wheel well too.

I have sprayed my Max with the rubber undercoating, I did take my wheels off, and had my car on jack stands for about half of a day to spray and dry up some. Now here are some pro's
I feel that it will help some on the road noise, only you will need to put on a few coats, of it. It goes on easily. Now for the cons, it smells bad, remember it is a tar in a can. Also, it is reall messy so be careful.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Todd

Take off your wheels and cover stuff you don't wanted splatter on... It goes everywhere...

The sound deadening is minimal for me... but every little bit adds up...

not a great idea.

You have to clean that wheel well REALLY good and get it good and dry or you will be dealing with rust in about one year. Its hard to clean the inside of the wheel well good...if you can do it good though, I am sure it will be worth something. Hey, in a year you will know if you didn't clean it well enough

There shouldn't be any problem since the new undercoating will go over the existing one... at worst you just lose the newer coating...

I respectfully disagree.

If you aren't carefull you will trap in moisture and that will lead to rust. I have seen this first hand with rust repair. If you don't get EVERy bit and I mean EVERY bit of rust out and sealed, you might as well not even paint it and sand...etc. That damn rust WILL come back, trust me

Covering up the undercoating with more without making sure its dry, clean and slightly sanded so it sticks well will eventually lead to RUST!

I guess if there was bare metal showing at first...

I didn't ... and I used the undercoating ... no rust for over 2.5 years...
