i don't think it's bad. It's all in your style of driving. Some people use the gears to slow down, some people just use the breaks. I'm not a mechanic or anything so i don't know if there is harm. I doubt there is besides increased brake wear.

Yup. I cruise to a stop light in neutral. I figure that brakes are made for braking, gearboxes aren't. Now, when I'm in a spirited driving mood where I need to quickly transition from slo to go, then I use the gearbox. Otherwise, let the brakes wear out doing what they were meant to do, and let the tranny do what it does best.

You are well on your way to clutch mastery, my friend
Have you tried engaging 1st while stopped on a hill, going up?? Without the use of the e-brake?? That's the hardest, and you usually have the car roll back just a little as you're engaging 1st gear. When I 1st learnt stick (after knowing autos for 5 years I may add) I concentrated on the hill part. After that, it was cake

The hardest part about learning stick is getting going in 1st. The rest is child's play.

Blip the throttle
Downshift
Apply brake
clutch in and **** to neutral.

What really bugs me is seeing people rock back and forth at a stop light... put the damn thing in neutral and save your clutch!!!

Hmmmmm.....so:

Automagic = fear

5-speed = Automagic * 2 = Automagic + Automagic = fear + Automagic = Fear automagics

If you live close to SF, then drive around there for about an hour. . . You will have 5-speed driving mastered. . . Some of those hills will very much shorten the life of your clutch. . . But it is fun.

Yes, my friend.

Automagic = 2 X as powerful as 5 speed.
