Hey everyone, been working at the two lasts bolts this last two days and haven't had any luck...The flywheel bolts that bolt the flywheel to the motor. I've drenched it with liquid wrench over night, even behind the flywheel or at least tried. At the same time been trying to impact it out. So far I cracked one snap on socket. I've heated it a little but don't think enough and tried to impact it again. Today I used two new snap on sockets and feel like it wants to round off the bolt a little and also ruining my sockets. I'm impacting with a 600lbs reverse IR gun.

From what i see online is I need to heat the area up with a torch(propane?that what i have) until it's almost red hot or in that area. Then let it cool down but don't know when to attempt to impact it again....

maybe the psi on your compressor is too low? if it was really putting 600lb to that bolt i guarantee you it would come loose or break..heeh. You can always drill it!

 

up the pressure a bit




if that doesn't work, buy a new gun

 

that's a lot of psi if that is true. If the bolt does round off I have heard good things about the craftsman bolt out tool. I don't know if it will help though if 600 psi cannot touch it.

 

at that point it's time to find a high quality drill bit

 

Are we talking about a left hand drill bit? Extractor?

 

Ok yeah they are pretty much rounded off...Any tips on drilling them out or what I should do???

 

Ended up drilling it and tried to use an extractor bit and the bit broke int he middle of the bolt....What options do I have? Cut off head release some tension? is there a way to retap it or something? Maybe drill out more and more to get it out some way without hitting the threads???

get the drill bit out with pliers and try doing it again. well, that's what I would do...

there's nothing you can do in your garage without pulling the engine. it's very likely you're going to have to have the crank machined if they're in there that good. they're either siezed or rusted to the crank and there's no way you're going to get them out with any hand tools or without FUBARing more stuff.

Well after a few days of trying to figure out what to do...I had soaked it with pb blaster then I eventually cut off the bolt heads or at least the part that was possibly causing tension. The bolts came out with ease, hand twisted them out...Almost thought I had to put in my other motor too... thanks for the help. Guys think that maybe the head was seized onto the flywheel or something like that???

 

wait do I need a impact gun to remove these bolds, or a simple breaker bar could do it?

 

Well i've used only impact guns on this but I think an breaker bar would work but make sure the socket is seated the entire time cause these bolt heads are pretty thin and can easily round them...i'd see what others think too.... but I think it would work fine....

 

I used a regular 3/8 wrench.

Make sure you have a flathead screwdriver to hold the flywheel in place.
