Auto Shipping/Moving Companies

Hi,

My girlfriend is relocating from CA to PA to join me.

She needs to transport her Camry.

What moving companies would you recommend?

About how much should we prepare to pay?

Thanks in advance

sincerely, Noela

When my sister looked into having her car moved from NY to Seattle it was almost $1,300 and it took over a week. That was last year, I would bet rates have gone way up thanks to gas cost.

Personally I would sell the thing and get something else in PA.

Go with someone that has a damage type insurance. If it is a hooptie, then I would go with his advice to dump it and grab something else up there. If it is a newer one, I would go with an enclosed carrier, that way the car isn't threatened by tree branches and or bad weather (hail, ice or even rocks).

My husband and I haul for an enclosed carrier. We haul exotics so naturally, I am biased to using only nascar-styled trailers. No racks or chains.

My Hubby is on his way into Cali right now actually!

Some open carriers are: Dependable Auto Shippers, Allied and The Waggoners Trucking

Enclosed carriers: Intercity Lines, Select One and Reliable.

Good luck and if I can guide you, pm me or even shout back. I do this for a living and would love to offer advice free!

Oh yeah, quotes are free! Grab as many as you can! A lot of them do quotes online.

Upstate Max, if you don't mind my asking, who'd you use and were you happy. I'm curious, I guess just for giggles!

4MySwee,

Thanks for your prompt reply. My girlfriends car is a 2003 Camry - still fairly new (less than 25K miles), hence we will bring it along.

I like the idea of an enclosed carrier, and wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for it. I checked out intercity review at epinions with glowing recommendation.

Is Select and "reliable auto" separate companies?

of the three enclosed carriers listed, which would you recommend..?

Regards, Noela

She did not end up shipping it, we figured it was a waste of money.

But yes, I do mind you asking!

Shipping can be very pricey also, like you said. I have never had to ship though. I guess it varies on value of car to person vs costs of shipping.

Probably at least $1300 for that distance. I shipped a 300zx from Oregon to Florida, but it was over a year ago for $1200.

I would NOT use a broker, especially an internet broker. You can go directly to the company, why throw money at a middle man? Brokers generally get $400 more. They make promises, without consulting with the company that will do the actual transport. Do not use brokers please!
