HELP QUICK HID Problem

Put an HID kit in this afternoon, did the complete install and i get no headlights, I get foglights parking lights, and turning lights when blinker comes on, But i get no HID, the ballast seem to be fine and kinda do a little humming noise when they are on, like a faint buzz, and the kit was all plug n play, No splicing wires or anything. It was an KAIXEN HID kit, 9006 kit, low beam, Please any ides to help me get some headlights.

Zero Deuce SE 03-21-2006 04:52 PM

Possibly not properly grounded.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 04:54 PM

it was all plug n play, all the plugs matched up, i didnt have to clip and splice any wires or anything, i am thinking a grounding issue as well.... i am thinking i have to splice something, but its weird everything matched up fine, 100% plug n play...

Zero Deuce SE 03-21-2006 04:57 PM

Is there any tech support from the manufacturer or a troubleshooting chart that came with the kit?

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:03 PM

yea, its saying i did it the way its supossed to be done, thats why i am dumbfounded why i get no headlights.

n3985 03-21-2006 05:17 PM

Make sure the AMP connectors to the bulbs are clipped in the little tab. Are both sides not working? Make sure also that the wires from the ballast to igniter are well connected.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:19 PM

both sides dont work, so its gotta be a ground thing,, i am going crazy...i am 99% sure everything is plugged in tight.

n3985 03-21-2006 05:24 PM

You sure you didn't connect it to the highbeams? :hide:

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:27 PM

i think so. i tried putting the higbeams on, got no light either, if i accidently put em on the highbeams how would i know.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:29 PM

i did, no lights.....

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:30 PM

Could it possibly be if the ballast touches something metal ? do u have an HID kid, this kit gave me a pad to put them on so i am assuming them dont want ballast touching metal.

The pad is double-sided tape so you can mount the ballasts on the chassis somewhere. It does not matter if the ballast touches metal.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:38 PM

hrmm.. do u have an hid kit man...

Yes, in my fog lights. And I've done many other HID installs on friends' cars.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:41 PM

hrmm, you think you got a minuete to mayby call me man...

n3985 03-21-2006 05:41 PM

OK, try this: turn your key to the ON position and turn on your lights. I had to do that for my friend's A4 to get the HIDs to fire up.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:41 PM

i dunno whaqt else to do or try

descent 03-21-2006 05:46 PM

hell, start your car and try to turn them on. otherwise, take everything off and do it all over....do one at a time and make sure one lights before you connect the second one

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:48 PM

i knew it was too good to be true, this kit was easy, take bumper off, plug everything in, bumper back on, and they dont work

jreilly04 03-21-2006 05:50 PM

did anyone have to upgrade to bigger fuses or anything. ?????

n3985 03-21-2006 05:59 PM

Plug back in the old factory bulbs and see if they light up. If not, you blew a fuse.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 06:01 PM

tested all the fuses, they r fine, i will , i am gonna go back out into the garage n see if i can try to fix em.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 06:02 PM

ill be back online in 20 min, gotta drive home with fogs.. lighting the way.... only gotta go 5 miles

ktranne 03-21-2006 06:16 PM

last time I tried to install my fog hid, i got the humming thing too. Found out that the bulb was bad.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 06:20 PM

both bulbs though ? its not a humming noise. just sounds like they are on or charging

n3985 03-21-2006 06:51 PM

It's normal to hear a faint buzz/humming sound from the ballast.

Tatanko 03-21-2006 06:54 PM

Only time I have ever gotten that "humming" noise with mine was when one wasn't properly grounded, and another time when I forgot to hook the base back up to a bulb once.

By humming, I mean a loud, noticeable humming, too. As n3985 said, it's normal to hear it...but not that loud.

jreilly04 03-21-2006 07:34 PM

i just got my front bumper back off, and am taking a break, then trying to fix this thing

jreilly04 03-21-2006 08:22 PM

i put stock bulb in, then put HID back in, nothing, this is pissin me off... i am going to bed ill work it out tommorrow, thanks for all the help / input//

What did you conclude?

n3985 03-23-2006 02:33 PM

So what was the problem?

Fido Auto 03-24-2006 07:15 AM

:wtf: whats the problem......

jreilly04 03-24-2006 09:35 PM

The problem was i had to clip the stock plug off and splice into the HID kit, cause for some odd reason the plugs werent working like they were supossed to, so i clipped the plugs off and used butt connectors to connect the stock wires to HID. hehe, all that crap
