As we all know about the specs of the '02 Max and the specs for '03 Max are still in the mist. Nevertheless some prediction for the '03 had been made but never confirmed. So as in your choice would you go for the '02 Max or lean a little further for the '03? Or better yet get another car like '02 Altima. For example, get the '02 Altima and swap the 6spd from the Max and some mods and swap from the Maxima. I believe that Altima could do some big damage.!!! Don't you think?

I think buying a car is like buying a computer. You should go ahead and get what you like and can afford. There is always going to be something faster coming out next year. Don't worry about it too much. If you do, you'll be waiting forever.

I know waiting for the right one is forever but at least try to afford the one that's right for you and for your pocket and don't feel bad later on.
Computer parts come out way faster than cars. Either way this poll is just to see how you guys respond to the new MAX.

I have been thinking about this exact question for about a month now. After a LOT of research I have Chosen the 2002 Altima over the 2002 Maxima. Heres the bottom line, when the new Altima is compared to the new max the only things I find better about the new max is 20HP, 1 more gear, a heated stearing wheel and a available GP$ $ytem. On the other hand I have found quite a few things better about the 2002 Altima, here they are, the Altima is a completly brand new car from top to bottom and has a nice new fresh style that will look top notch for many years to come, it has a rear independent suspension{A skyline suspension in fact!} it is about 6 Grand cheaper for the same set up as the Max{est.}, it has 8 airbags, bags , it is bigger, it has the same 246 Lb's of TQ as the Maxima, dual exaust and it's just plain better in almost every way. Another thing to think about is the resale value, the 2002 Max will most likely take a huge hit as soon as the 2003 Maxima is released. If what I just said did not sell you then check out these sights, www.freshalloy.com , www.nissandriven.com , www.nissannews.com and www.altimas.net . At these sights you will find loads of great info and pics of the new altima. BTW if weight means anything to you or others reading, the new altima 3.5SE with a 5spd will weigh in at 3180 pounds, hmm now what does that reming you of?

Nice post emax95 you make some excellent points.

I personally would wait for the 2003 Maxima depending on your current situation. Simply because of the new body styling. Besides that any minor kinks that appear for in the new engine can be ironed out.

good points emax...

but I think the new alty is FUGLY! It looks HUGE, kinda like an A6 lookalike, really tall rear fenders, big a_s_s, SC430 looking front end (esp. the headlights), and really ugly taillights. No wait, the front looks like a Civic, that's it.

It should be fast though.

Ahh... you will get use to the new look in no time. All of Nissans new cars are a bit strange looken but they always grow on you, lol. Just wait until I get my White one and throw a body kit on it and a nice exaust sytem{And a few other things }, it will look killer.

Something to think about . . .

I agree that the 2002 Maxima will be superior to the 2000-2001 Maxima in practically every respect. What the hell, the 2002 Altima SE will be superior to the 2000-2001 Maxima in many respects. So what does that mean?

I'd suggest it means that Nissan shot themselves in the foot. Considering that the 2001 Maxima will be a performance loser compared to either the 2002 Altima SE or the 2002 Maxima, people interested in purchasing a Maxima should be able to get KILLER DEALS on the 2001's in the very near future. I, for one, wouldn't be surprised to see brand new fully-loaded 2001 Maximas drop below the $20,000 price point after rebates and incentives. If I'm right, 2001 Maximas may very well become the buy of the century.

Good point, I am trying to keep a open mind on 2001 MAxima deals . If the deals are good enough I just might get one. Not needing a loan whould be nice . I noticed that there is a $2000 Cash back or 3.9% APR on 2001 Altimas.

That should be pocket change compared to what Nissan will have to do to sell their 2001 flagship after the 2002 Altima SE and 2002 Maxima become available. Nissan might even have to go so far as to change the name of their 2001 flagship from the Maxima to the Titanic!

Mark my words on this.

I agree with what you are saying about the price, though they will not call the next Maxima the Titanic. Titanic doesn't end with an 'A'

;-)
