This is probably a stupid question but I always wondered if the transmission gets hurt when you are rolling back in reverse and then put it in first while the car is still rolling backwards pretty fast..

Probably not but I dont know, and I find my stick has a hard time getting into the reverse gear sometimes. Especially if im rolling down a slope backwards in neutral then try to put it in reverse - it grinds.

Well......

to tell you the truth as far as I know "grinding" is never a good noise to hear in a car! chances are grinding = bad!

My mechanic always told me not to ever do that because it will cause gear damage. Although you may not notice right away it will harm your transmission in the long run.
