All day long we talk **** about civics and other cars we deem inferior. I was really thinking about buting an M3 and I was over at their forums and I paid attention to what they talk **** about, mostly each other but also FWD cars. The only real difference between us and civics is the car size and the fact that we have an awesome engine going to waste on a FWD car. I know some will say that FWD is superior in snow and other adverse conditions but if it was so great then wht doesn't Chevy or Porsche make the switch for the Corvette or the 911. I love my Maxima but it's still not a RWD car. It's a shame because if it was, nobody would have **** to say, switching the power to the rear wheels on that car would make it damn near unstoppable. I don't care about anyhting else, not HID's clear side markers - just make the car RWD PLEASE.......

Drive in reverse and you'll feel like RWD.

My RWD car can't touch the handling of my FWD cars. When desinged right, FWD cars handle so much better than any RWD car. The main reason that Corvettes are RWD is because thats their tradition, and can you imagine the outrage if they tried to switch. Also, the corvette uses its rear mounted transmission to achieve an almost perfect F/B weight balance. The Porches are mid engine, and most of them are 4wd now anyways. I think it's a lotter better to be pulled than pushed.

Tradition huh, than why do they continue to make RWD sports cars - because it is superior. How is that, all we can do is snowplow thru turns. It is so much easier to push than pull, traction is just more abundent. When you step on the gas and the front end pops up it pulls weight off the tires = less traction. Let me guess - if your suspension was set up right blah blah. It doesn't matter, it still happens no matter the suspension all it does is lessen the affects. In Toyota's ads for the IS300 they say "what self respecting sport sedan wouldn't be RWD." FWD is cheaper and more compact to produce - we get FWD for the same reason we have the rear multi link beam bull****. To save money.

The Maxima will be rwd for 2003

Sure it'll be rwd, but it'll be a bloated, stretched out derivative of the Q45/Cima platform.
Is that what you want? It sure as hell isn't what I want.
Besides, some of the best handling cars in the world are on a front wheel drive platform (Celicas, Integras -- especially the Type-R, FrontTrak Audi A4's, Passats...).
Sure my next car will be awd (Subaru WRX Sport Wagon), but in the meantime fwd is fine.

Most people probably get the impression that FWD handles better because the only RWD car they've driven is a Stang or Camaro. Try driving a modded RX-7 or 300ZX with suspension mods.

I thought the baddest Porsche was the GT2? That sucker is RWD only. Lighter (220 lbs.), more power... oh yeah!

1397. In one of my "past lifetimes", I was a Rickshaw driver. It was a tough life, pulling the fat King around. Not to mention, I was at his beck and call 24/7. Let's just say there were alot of half eaten egg rolls around my house.
One day, after the fat bastard King had called me out of an important game of Mah Jong, I thought, "Screw this. I'm tired of pulling that spoiled Jackie Chan wannabe around town. There's gotta be another way. Pulling all this dead weight behind me is killing my feet. And don't even get me started on forced airflow - what with the passengers behind me, I couldn't even pass gas!"
I though to myself "It wouldn't hurt him to put his feet down from that lazy perch and help me out a bit. That's it!", I cried out loud, "4 feet drive!!"
The rest as they say -- is history.

Interestingly enough, SCC did a test a few months ago in their mag at a track with a group of cars, FWD, RWD, and AWD. They had a 500 hp Eclipse AWD, a 350 hp Sentra SE-R, 500 HP RX-7, and a lightly modded Miata. There were a few other cars as well, but in the end, the too cars they chose as the most fun to drive were the RX-7 as #1, and #2 on the list was the Miata. They liked RWD better than even AWD.......

How did you derive a RWD for the 2003 Max? The 2003 Max will be based on the Altima platform, which is a FWD platform.

Of course. RWD cars perform better than FWD cars when pushed to their limits.

A Maxima based on a Altima platform instead of the other way around? What the hell is the world coming to?
