Anyone have any idea what size tweeter would fit into the hole? Do most aftermarket tweeter fit behind the OEM tweeter grill in the door panel?

The holes in the doors (97-99) are not perfect round... they have 2 notches cut into them (180 degrees apart) to hold the tweeter grill... The tweeter is screwed onto the metal of the door beneath.

I just cut the hole larger and put in some SoundSteam separates... There should be enough room for most component tweeters as mine are relatively large compared to average...

I loaded MB Quart tweeters in the OE hole. What I did, was to enlarge the OE hole (just like Chunger said, its not perfectly round), and stuffed the tweeter in there. But I did not make it any larger then what the OE grille will cover. This way, when I go to sell the car,the OE tweeters can be put back in.

I have kickpanels with 5 1/4 and a tweeter in them. Is there anything else that I can put in the tweeter hole that would look cool?

I have 95 max with bose tweeters in the front A-pillar, what i was thinking was to get holes in the back door around the door **** for extra pair of tweeters in my car. has anyone done this? what u guys think it would look like? thanx for your input...

I bought Rockford Fosgate separates...

and the tweets are 3/4". I had to open the factory door hole up and round it out a little bit, but I think any 3/4" tweeter would fit with a little work. A 1" would also fit with more work put into it.

I want to do the same to my 99SE with Bose. I have researched the topic using the search feature. From Chunger's post it seems that it would be difficult to use the stock tweeters and gril due to the fact that we need a circular opening with two notches for the grill and we need to fix the tweeter on the door. BTW I read that the tweeters are common in the Bose and non-bose version of the OEM stereo.

I also remember readinbg about a guy who did this but he pulled the signal from the front tweeters and I want it to pull the signal from the rear speakers. What all will be involved in doing this?

put your tweeters in the kickpanels

the imaging will be better as the tweeters will be more evenly spaced. i have tweeters in the door right now and they don't sound balanced.

Re: put your tweeters in the kickpanels

I'm probably going to do that. Put the tweeters in the kick panel. I'm going to get the ones you can swivel. I would mount it right next to the woofer, but it won't be stealthy enough. Kick panels are cheaper to replace than door panels if I mess up

You can make just about anything fit behind the grill, with minimal effort, remember the closer the the tweeter to the center of the Mid the better the sound, kick pannels are easy with the best imaging. That positions the tweeter closer to the mid and also alows the sound from both tweeters to reach your ear at about the same time, with no delay from the passenger side....
