no more manual

I read on Nissan News that the 07 Max will be automatic only.
Well, I guess I will have to move to an Altima or G35.
A sad day.

Max with auto ONLY???? its official, the "4DSC" was thought to have died with the 4th gen... but at least 4th, 5th and the first few 6th gens has manuals available... I guess its for 07 that any remaining feeling of the Max being a 4DSC is gone FTL

of course the g35 comes with a manual, maybe he meant the sedan, but then again maybe not. maybe it will have a CVT option instead of manual

I was reading a weekly magazine that had a source say the sedan won't get MT. The link posted by CoolMax is for 2006. martinf and I were refering to 2007.

..... That is your opinion, not a fact (but I feel the same way as far as any remenance [sp*] of a 4DSC having died after 03).

It was with the 3rd gen that Nissan started marketing the Maxima as a 4DSC. That's where it began. Some people said it back in 95 that the 4DSC was gone due to the removal of IRS on the 4th gen. Also IIRC (someone with better memory correct me if Im wrong), Nissan only marketed the 3rd gen as a 4DSC. Magazines would hint about the 4th and 5th gens "living up to its 4DSC heritage", but Nissan made no mention of it for the commercials of concecutive generations

Have you seen the video that Nissan released where they swapped the IRS out for the 4th gen beam? They found the beam superior to IRS, which's why the 4th gens have it. It's about 25mb video file, search for it.

the 3rd gen had 3 trim levels.

gxe-base-auto only
SE-sport-auto/5 spd manual
4dsc.-abs and some other options- only in automatic.

so in a sense its the return of the 4dsc.

Nissan is definetaly taking the sport out of their Maximas. I think the 5th Gen was the last attempt at a sports Sedan. The 6th Gen is a boat and the 7th Gen an automatic boat. The car needs to be slimmed down, they are waaay too big now.

Yes, in terms of driving on smooth roads the torsion beam is superior for traction, as it does not allow the positive camber on the inside wheel that an IRS does. That said, an IRS is superior on rough or uneven roads, and has more adjustability for autocross/track racing since the camber, caster, and toe can (technically) be adjusted. The only way to adjust the beam axle is to bend the beam for camber, which is a MAJOR project that most people will not do (including me).

IRS, though, is also LIGHTER weight....something to be said for light weight if you're calling anything a "sports car".

The 5th gen IMO is more sporty than 4th gen only because of the better p/w ratio and larger OEM wheels/tires. Other than that, it's pretty much the same. The 3rd gen was smaller, lighter, and with IRS had a more "sporty" feel to it....

doubtful...the G35 sedan doesn't have an MT available either, and it's just as "sporty" as a 7th gen Maxima, that's for sure.

Everyone just face it....the Maxima has morphed into a big quasi-luxury sedan, and the Japanese automakers don't put many MT's into that kind of car.

Have fun with your CVT's

4DSC was not a trim level. GXE and SE were the only trim levels available in the 3rd gen. The GXE was only available in auto and the SE with either 5 spd or auto. ABS was an option for the SE and became and option for the GXE in 1992.

Dunno. The video only talks about 3rd gens and probably only applicable to 4th gens that made the switch.

I need to find a site to host the video.

I owned two 3rd gens. My first was a 89 SE 4DSC and the second was a 92 SE 4DSC. Both were Winter Blue and beautiful cars.

*buzzer* try again...the SE or GXE could come with the 4DSC label, please do some research in the 3rd gen forum before you make false statements. I owned a 1991 GXE and my friends 1990 SE sitting right outside his house has the 4DSC sticker right on the window

Well the automatic will no longer be a normal automatic transmission...They switched to SVT which I am not to sure what it is. Its suppose to be really smooth and cant even notice the car shifting. Like 1 Gear

Anyone know any more information on this ??

umm, guys? The G35 Sedan and Coupe both can be had with optional 6-speed manuals. the current Sedan also has an AWD option that you cannot pair with the manual As far as the generations of Maxima are concerned, It seems like with the advent of the VQ engine family, this car truly began to rock. the world's best V6 was put into our cars and has continued to evolve into what some engineers from rival R&D departments call "the 600lbs. gorilla of V6s" I think that from 95-03 was really the heyday of this car, and while many will debate within those years which is best, I think they're all great. I initially disliked the 04-06, what with it's 200-something pound bloat and slight tweak in HP, while having a grille that reminds me of an electric shaver. It -DID- grow on me though, and so long as there was a nice 6-speed tranny attached to a hugely powerful V6, i was interested. yeah, i suck and wound up with an auto, but knowing that it was available helped me take pride in a car that wasn't being sanitized and watered down to turn it into a slushmobile. Not tuning the suspension, jumps in weight, and now, no stick? I think that's the last straw; regardless of torsion beam or IRS. If nissan wants me in another maxima, maybe they'll use a 1st-gen FM platform from a G35coupe, and give me a brutal and reasonably priced sports sedan(read; LESS that 30k for a loaded SE or a few box ticks on an SL)

I've noticed that the 07 doesn't have the manual options since I was trying to build one on the Nissanusa.com site and it didn't have the that drivetrain, only auto.

I'm seriously thinkin about a used 06 M35 Sport. Yeah it's heavy but it looks #@%$ Spectacular and if i'm careful, i can nab one with less than 20k on the odo and be priced about the same as a G35

*still wants an M45 Sport with black/aluminum interior and that deep blue exterior*

i currently own a 05 maxima SE and wifey drives 05 6 speed. driving experience like day and night. maxima somewhat of an overachieving wannabe "sports" sedan. G35....RWD...enough said. consequently will be looking to unload the maxima soon.

The maxima is Nissan's "Flagship".
Look at the Audi A8
Look at the BMW 760xx

They are huge. Nissan has decided to move up in to the same size category as these. I am sure the altima will become the next 4th gen maxima in terms of fan base.
