Maybe, instead of complaining, the threadstarter take it upon himself to fix this potential visual flaw from ruining the Maxima's public image. Offer his services of removing the offending markings and stenciling something like "JDM y0" on the hoses instead....?

when it comes right down to it, a lazy mexican is probably just as lazy as a lazy american, german, canadian, japanese, whatever. We may like to think that a mexican plant is dirtier than ours, its probably not true. These are first-world countries building these things. Mexico may look run down when you are on the streets outsdie, but inside you can bet they look like any other plant in north america.. and if the mexicans want to keep their job they better work hard - because theres a milliion people outside with whom they could be replaced if they were obviously lazy and didn't do good work...

hell, I was at CIA's gift shop a few months back, and there are thousands of items with CIA's logo on it. Almost all of them were stamped with "Made in China" on them....China, our strategic enemy.

Global market, that's the way the world works. There's really no such thing as an "American" or "Japanese" or "European" car any more.

China is nothing short of amazing. Well, a visit to the Phila. Museum of Art and you can see how advanced their works were thousands of years ago. Now that they've decided to be "the" world superpower, it's as if there isn't a thing we can do (maybe there isn't). Bill Gates and Warren Buffet could both contribute their net worths and it wouldn't even put a dent into our annual trade deficit with China. I was hoping to get a trip to Shanghai but someone else beat me for the assignment. Guess I'll settle for going down to Arlington, VA in August. Just as exciting!

Nothing wrong with Arlington....we hang out there all the time....it's just around the corner from the "Fairfax County Mafia" haha (Puppetmaster, me, Soonerfan, Dblrr900, Cutler, and a few others).

yes, they're amazing to some degree - but their engineering workmanship is less than stellar in most areas requiring technical precision and quality.....I spend most of my workday dealing with...er..."Chinese Product Analysis" you could say...The trade deficit is really not a "good" thing for China, per se...indeed they are trying to revalue the remnimbi against the dollar to reduce it. But this is neither the time nor place for economic discussion

btw, pm me and let me know when you're coming to arlington/where you're working - I've been in this area a while (worked in Va, DC, and Md) and can give you the lowdown on the good bars, etc...

Though I know there are good quality and poor quality cars made everywhere, I've got to agree to some extent. My wife's 2000 Jetta 1.8 was made in Mexico. In the 2-3 years that we owned it, I can't even count how many times it was at the dealer getting things fixed (mostly electrical gremlins). Compare to her current car, 2004 Mazda 3s, which hasn't hat the slightest problem in 3 years.

Then again, the Mazda3 shares alot of parts with the Ford Focus and the Volvo S40....so what does that say about internationalization...

01-03 Yes and guess what Acura will replace your trans for free because of this problem. They put a 100k warrenty on it. If something happens under normal use they will replace it. Tell nissan that about every 95-96 manual trans maximas that at 80-100k the diff bearings start falling apart and your trans sounds like its going to blow up. Well don't take my word for it, its not like my trans blew up under normal use and left me in the middle of the street not able to do ****. Oh yeah the solution was buying a brand new trans from nissan because its so cheap now a days.......

Get my point.

What I find interesting is sometimes people act politically correct, like on an email, voicemail, forum, but in person act differently. A dude in the office adopted from China, and one time I actually heard him making a slur against Chinese. That's stupid. I tend to think that's the real person, kinda like the Mel ordeal.

I have a Seiko diver's watch made in Malaysia. My friend has one made in Singapore. My brother has one made in Japan. Can you guess whose is the oldest, newest? Mine is the newest--it actually seems like an excellent watch, though it does run 10-12 sec fast per day (a coworker's Omega does as well, nature of automatics I guess).

Anyway, when it comes to mfg. I doubt people are making any comparison between the production and the people. At least I'm not. What I brought up is the perception--again, people are quick to bash non USA or German tools, that's a fact. But suddenly the same people are quick to say there's no difference when it comes to a belt or hose. Very convenient.

He was just using Thailand as an example really. It's been Notorious that Pacific rim countries have some of the crummiest manufacturing in the world. Not their fault really when you think of the political turmoil almost every other major export country hasen't had to deal with in the last 40 years that they have. this is why Hyundai has "America's Best Warranty" because upcoming companies like them are investing in america, and need to put something out there to allieviate fears from people with old mentalities about where companies come from. Mexican hoses aren't such a big deal. I'm sure Goodyear Tire & Rubber has a plant down there that does manufacturing for automotive companies. Goodyear's Based in Akron, OH... so what could be more american than that?

...then again, hondas are made in ohio, Mercedes in Alabama, and Hyundais in Tennessee.

welcome to the world.

Im glad someone already said it...100% Japanese Transmissions are sometimes of substandard quality. Those Acura TL trannies, all made in Japan, all needed replacement...I dont see anyone Jumping on Japan though. There is a double standard here!
