Who knows what the deal is with the 02' Altima Gauges. I was afraid I was going to miss out on the famous SE lights on the Max going with an Altima, but the pictures of the Altima Speedometer on nissannews.com look awesome. Yellow on blue??? WOW. Does anyone know if those are the real gauges, concepts, or just photoshopped?? I want them!

Those look real, i don't think they are concept, the 2002 Altima is coming out this September so i don't think Nissan will change the gauges. They are not photoshoped also, you can see that its smooth and straight from a camera

F*** me that's tiight. I really didn't wanna buy the new Altima simply because I've been a dedicated Maxima enthusiast since first sight. I've owned two Maximas and my wife drives an altima. Now it looks like I'll be driving one as well. The whole design of the new Altima has got me droolin for real. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Maxima man 4 life but I don't wanna drive a car with a V8(2003 Maxima).

How do you know that the new(2003) will have a V8 engine?

I think it's a guess that a lot of people assume. It makes sense for the Max to go to 8 cylinders.

Because the 2003 Max is going to be based on the Q45 platform as far as I know, so they will put the 340HP V8 in it, hopefully they will keep the 6 speed option!!! That would be mean

a Maxima is a four door sport sedan not a cadilac. I don't think it will have a V8, they'll just increase the HP. I am not saying that it won't but it might be. Where did you here that it will be based on the Q45 platform?

I don't remember but the Altima is stepping up to the maxima spot as the sports sedan, and the maxima is going to the big bad luxury sedan

What are all you crack heads smoking were are you hearing that a maxima will have a V8, that's way unlikely that this would ever happen. OK there's my two cents.

I dont think it's unlikely at all. A V8 powered Maxima would be based on the Infinity Q45, and therefore have an inexpensive parts bin. Why have two cars with a V6 when you can have a V8 in there too

This is simply something I posted elsewhere.

V8?

I heard from people at a Nissan dealership that the Altima is basically replacing the Maxima, and the Maxima is moving up even further. While the new V6 for the Altima will definitely boost sales dramatically for it and differentiate it from the Sentra, it will also "steal" sales away from the Maxima. Therefore, there must be something that the Maxima can offer that the Altima doesn't, a V8 engine. While there is no official word on this, it has been talked about and I am curious if others have heard the same thing or not. I do not know what model year will have the "option", or if it will even ever happen. Any thoughts?

I would tend to agree and think that the extra 20hp the Maxima will offer will not be enough since the times between the Altima and the Maxima will probably be identical due to the weight difference.

Also... Hopefully if the Maxima gets a V8, the Altima will eventually get the extra 20 horses, and the extra gear!

It's prolly just rumor, but thats about all I could find.

Actually, the 2002 Maxima is only 41lbs heavier than the 2002 Altima. I estimate the Max running a 14.3 stock and the Alty runnin a 14.6.
