Should I bother with a 3" exhaust or stick with a 2.5"? Had a debate with BBMax527 as to wheather NO2 is concidered forced enduction or not. I know the SC or a Turbo benefits from a increased free flow exhaust, but will you see similar gain using a 3" with NO2?

yes...NOS loves better flowing exhaust...but if you have a 2.5 aftermarket exhaust you should be fine.

dont' have either yet

But when I do... I would rather go for the correct setup from the start, instead of kicking myself later.

If you get a 3" full exhaust...you will be kicking yourself later....it will ruin your drivability without the NOS...and the gain with the NOS won't be enough to be worth it.

I think Thomas's exhaust might make him lose some in the low end, but with the NOS it definately helps out up high Thomas, we need to setup an Ennis date.

That's true you were lighting up those tires. I'm consindering doing a NOS setup sometime, but I haven't ridden with you yet. Next time I see ya can I check out your setup and ride shotgun I've ridden with Loren, but last time I didn't get a chance to ask you.

thanks guys

I'm right where I started now. I was thinking that a full 3" might be a little overkill for the time. After all, I don't "plan" to race much, so I wouldn't be using the NOS much either. But, if I'm not using the bottle, then I'm not racing, and thus why would I care if I lose some HP because of the bigger exhaust. I'de rather get everything from the NOS when I run on the bottle.

I didn't say you'd lose horsepower....just drivability...which would definitely bother you during everyday driving...for example...2nd gear starts would be a bit more diffucult...and require more clutch slipping...and therefore more wear on your clutch and your foot.

Why is that? How does the 3" make it different? I have an Auto, but I am curious nonetheless.

Larger pipe handels more exhaust gas volume, but the exhaust gas velocity slows down. Lower exhaust gas velocity lessens the exhaust gas scavanging effect and causes less efficient combustion chamber filling resulting in lost power. The losses will be greater at lower rpm's. At least that is the theory, but until some one with a normally asperated Maxima and a full 3" exhaust does a dyno run its just a theory, but it is a widely believed theory.

Hopefully, I'll test it.

Then we will all know for sure. May take a while though.

Very true Matt.

Well, Adam aka MY4DSC just sold his S/C and still has his 3" full exhaust on. PM him and ask him about it. He has dragged stock vs 3" exhaust vs S/C. He would probably have the best answer fot this one.

And i dont think THomas has lost any power. I knwo Thomas cant handle that power.

I agree with mardigras until someone dyno's with a 3" and with a 2.5 wit is all a theory. I am kinda hesatant about it without actual dyno #'s
