Quickie ? about Copper Plugs

This is for a 2K Maxima...

Just got my package from DaveB with coils, filters and plugs.

I ordeded the copper plugs, but when I checked the order, they seemed to me like platinum plugs.

I mean, I dont recall seeing a copper plug, so I can't for sure tell how they are supposed to look like.

Any help with that?! It does seem like plat coated to me...

only thing that stroke me, is that the tips are slotted or chipped or whatever you call that cut in the electrode. Never changed plugs on the Maximas, so I didnt know their plugs had that cut in the electrodes.

Part number: 22401-50Y05

Thanks in Advance!

It strikes me that those aren't NGK plugs, so send them back. Use only NGK spark plugs.

The V-power copper spark plugs are BKR5E-11.

The OEM laser platinum plugs are PFR5G-11.

See www.ngksparkplugs.com

Also, do you really need to replace the coils? If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

22401-50Y05 seems to be the correct number for copper plugs. Its MSRP is $1.92. I think BKR5E011 and 22401-50Y05 are the same.

I have copper plugs installed from NGK They are the 11's for sure, and they looked silver/platinum. I was wondering what that was all about too but it seems like the coppers are that color.

Yes.. I physically checked them.. they are indeed original NGKs sold thru Nissan part number. And acutally you are right, they are BKR5E-11

I was just surprised to seem them shinning like plat coated plugs.

Now, regarding the coils, which 5th Gen Maxima does not need to change coils?! hauhauahuah It is a curse, you know... I havent checked which model you have, but I guess it is not the 5th Gen!

My time finally came, Misfired #2 continuously, so I got that coil from Dave as well.

Thanks for the inputs! All is clear, they are indeed the copper ones.

I have a 4th Gen (95SE, 5-speed) and I don't believe in changing spark plugs. I haven't done it in 12 years (car's birthday is October 1st) and I have no intentions of doing so for at least another year (emissions testing Dec. 2007).

I hate to say that, but i wouldnt change mine either... I believe in the saying: if it aint broke dont fix it! I am with you there...

But the thing is, I'll be checking all coils, and the plugs are like $8, no reason to NOT change them either.

It is like changing your rotors for some reason and keeping the same pads... one could do that... but i wouldnt.

Why bother changing them? My car runs like the day I bought it and I get better fuel economy than virtually any 4th Gen on the .org. I have exceeded 500 miles to a tank on numerous road trips and 550 miles a handful of times. The last road trip I went on, which was last month, I drove considerably faster than normal and still averaged almost 27 miles to the US gallon over the course of 600 miles and had the cruise control set at 140 kmh (almost 90 mph) for extended periods of time in the middle of nowhere. That's with 3 people and luggage.

I usually only drive 10kmh over the speed limit on road trips, however.

How many miles on your car? And have you ever changed a coil yet?

I hope so too!!

I bought Cyl #2 coil from Dave B, plus copper plugs, air filter, fuel filter, and 3 oil filters for a total of $127. The coil was about $67.

Dave is great to deal with, I've gotten stuff from him twice so far, and when I need more stuff, I'll be going back to him. I just ordered a fuel filter as well, when will you be doing yours? I read the sticky on it here once, are you going by those instructions or do you have something else?

I've read the same sticky... dunno how i'll be approaching that... I guess i'll just see how it actually works when I actually try it out.... It shouldnt be that bad...

I have that sticky printed out, the haynes manual and the online service manual. That should do it, it is only a fuel filter.
