You've got to be kidding me!

Failing to signal? I recognize it's the law, but give me a break! Nothing better to do? I mean the unsolved homocides are sooo yesterday. Why waste his time with such menial issues, but looky there, there goes a Maxima, yes that's right, a Maxima and he is changing lanes and not signaling! Why that is so much more dangerous than a unsolved homocide!

I'm not getting how your maxima decals are blocking your tag! Does he mean that a license plate frame was blocking your expiration stickers on your tag?

Quickly accelerating is illegal? Showing someone else your exhaust is worth mentioning in the 'additional' remarks box?

Not enough coffee and cold doughtnuts! That is just ridiculous. I would go to court! Let us know what you decide and how it goes.

That is as bad as the obstructing traffic ticket I recieved after an accident. My car is was not movable, how could I do anything but obstruct traffic. No other ticket, no moving violation, just obstructing traffic.

Seriously, I respect the police but........ come on guys. There are crimes being committed that are far more important than some of the tickets that are given out. I understand that police have a job to do protecting stupid people from themselves, but tickets like failure to use turn signal and 4mph over? It is another way to get tax money nothing more.

lame, cops can be tough for sure, I got a ticket once for doing 70 mph on the interstate (not in maxima) . Speed limit was 65 mph. I had cruise control set on 65 mph?

Officer says do you know why I pulled you over ? I say no idea ? He says you were doing 70 mph. I say 65, he says 70 over and over for about 25 seconds.

Verdict: I get a speeding ticket for doing 65 mph in a 65 mph zone, officer says i was doing 70 mph and that was that.

never argue though on the speeding tickets, take them and pay them. Argued on this one though, but didnt take it to court. To many past speeding tickets to make a good case for the judge to believe.

what are ya gonna do ? like you say, you just got owned.

who knows about the cop handwriting thing ? I got a ticket once with a cop hiding out in the bush. Went to pay it a few days later, and there must have been over 200 tickets from that one cop on that one day. The receptionist was just shaking her head with some sour look on her face, having to go through all 1000 of them, until finally finding me. Lame thing was it was on Thanksgiving ?

Never ran into the georgia police, lived in atlanta several times, I did however run into the Georgia Highway Patrol. talk about getting a lashing. Im flying along and out of the woods comes some patrol car with lights flashing, swear the car was half patrol half army camouflage.

I pull over and get out of the car, and start walking to the back. Officer gets out screaming ? I do as he says you know, turn around put my hands on the trunk ? Cars are wizzing by, this guy is yelling for my license, in the confusion, i lift a hand, he screams again, then on accident I pulled my hand away again and the guy pulled out his gun. no kidding

i was like hey, everything is ok, no threat here.

freaky at the time, all that for a speeding ticket, on their behalf I bet they deal with some pretty tough customers. but he sure was tough on me.

been stopped by plenty of good cops too though.

back to topic: yeah, sorry to hear, fines, tickets, insurance, a real bummer. if you have a case of any sort try to beat it, if not total and complete ownage.

Regular patrol cops are not homicide detectives. Saying the ticket should not have been given because the cop should have been solving a murder makes absolutely ZERO sence. Thats not his job. Easy with the 'pig' comments. There are good cops, and there are bad cops, but regardless, these guys risk there lives every day to keep the citizens of this country safe. Your not willing to risk your life for others now are you? Then don't judge those who are so harshly. Think of all the times you have broken the speed limit and not been caught? Ran a red light? Karma can be a real PITA. Take your ticket and suck it up.

Btw, I mean it about the 'pig' comments. Keep them to yourself.

Spoken like you mean it!

Here's the deal,

We OBVIOUSLY know that patrol units are not the same as homocide detectives.....DUUH.......

You knew what the point was also, so much for symantics........

The pig thing, I get. But your reference above.......I don't. Like the whole Maxima.org thing is justified? How about acceleration? Give me a break.

There is beign a good police officer doing the job and there is being a jackhole.
Giving tickets (apparently) just for the sake of giving a ticket is uncalled for.

I agree that police do a tough job with never enough appreciation for what they do, but it is officers giving tickets like this that create a negative view of officers in general. I know you can cry "letter of the law" but there is also being a human being and not a robot. After all isn't part of being an officer a level of compassion and understanding?

he's a noob cop

A vet cop wouldn’t bother putting all that crap down.

A vet cop would just put down:

"Reason for pullover: Driver was behaving inconsistent"
"Violation: Improper display of tags. Bracket obstructs view."

You got out of the car when the cop did not ask you to?

I just wanted to get it straight. When a cop pulls you over, you stay in the car and to help the cop out, allow your hands to be seen at all times. You wait until the cop approaches your vehicle.

So you got out of the car just as soon as you pulled over? No wonder the cop was scared. I would have had my gun out a long time ago. You did something he never instructed you to do. Maybe there is more to the story.

Some cops handle it better than others.

But yeah, I think cops are trained to have their hand on their gun when someone leaves the car. More as a signal to the person that the cop "aint playing" IMO.

When I get pulled over (a lot) I stop, parking brake, roll ALL windows down (have tint,) turn off car, place keys on dashboard, hands on the wheel and try not to move around much.
I also dont go for my papers till he ask for them, cops hate it when people reach for the glove box before they get to the car!

EDIT: Oh and I'm white so that helps too...
(just a joke softies)

I have tint too and I roll down all my windows also just to help the cop easily see what's going on inside my vehicle. I don't want to make his job any harder than it already is.

Keys on the dashboard seems excessive to me. It makes the cop think you've been in this position before! Which you have!

But I've never had a single moving violation in my entire life. (just over 10 years of driving) I've only had a window tint ticket in FL. I've been pulled over only about 5 times maybe. All warnings, some verbal, some written.

But I've had my run ins with REALLY crooked cops! Don't add fuel to the fire. They are waiting for you to come back with an aggressive comment.

But I've also had my run ins with REALLY nice cops! Some cops are so nice that it makes you want to go have a beer with them after they get off work. But I only encounter nice, level headed cops that are doing their job and nothing more, about 25% of the time. The rest seem to be going out of their way in order to **** you off or to be rude. I've had several curse at me. In one of those scenarios, when his supervisor was notified, he got suspended for his behavior. I am sure it wasn't the first complaint filed against him.

But these bad experiences are more of a reason for me to follow the laws. I try my best never to exceed the speed limit by more than 5 or 6mph and I ALWAYS use my turn signals! I hear in South FL, they are really cracking down on turn signal violations. $100 for the first offense! No warnings! But, I've never heard of anybody actually getting this ticket. Nobody uses their signal anymore. It's probably b/c if you use your signal to change lanes, the car speeds up to prevent you from coming over! lol D cell batteries out the window! LOL

In our city, Lexington, there is a no-warning policy (but that doesn’t apply to women, girlfriend got pulled over for 20 over in a 65, no insurance, out of date license, ALL counts dropped, just had to pay court cost )

Been pulled over 3 times, so not THAT much, but got a ticket every time.

45 in a 35 zone (my freaking sister got pulled over for doing 70 in the same place I did, no ticket just a have a nice day ,) then a 17 over in a 25 zone (i was very late for that final ), and a spinning of tires in the rain + no insurance (just bought the car that day, bald tires, had insurance just not the card)

Went to court for the 1st and the 3rd, got traffic school both times with the no insurance dropped, not bad.

I respect cops for the most part, but most of the non speeding tickets are just lame.

There sure is a lot of Police flaming in this thread. Some of it is obviously deserved, however, this kind of ticket is not always unjustified. It's one thing for an over-zealous officer to stop a car and write a lane change ticket when that car is the only car on the road, or at least has no other cars around them. However, I would HOPE there is an officer around when these Subaru WRX STIs pull up next to me on my right on the highway, then slam the accelerator to nearly rear-end the guy in front of them and cut over at the last minute missing my bumper by inches. Technically, I don't believe this manouver is illegal unless it can PROVED that it was wreckless. However, if the moron didn't signal when he did it, as most don't, then the cop can do something about his dangerous behavior.

Just saying it's not always bad. The only gripe I have about 90% of the officers I encounter is their attitude. I would say only 1 time out of about 5 did I do ANYTHING to deserve police attention (which I won't get into), and the other 4, I was accused, badgered, and treated extremely poorly. In one instance I was even handcuffed held on the ground while the officer told me "That's the most expensive snowball you're ever going to throw, kid. Hope you have a good job, because I'm taken your next few paychecks." I remember exactly because I was really peeved by it. Any time I tried to tell him I didn't throw it, he'd cut me off and ask if I wanted to add resisting arrest to my charges, then he'd assure me I'd have my chance to talk down at the police station. So I just stayed quiet. About a minute after I was cuffed, 2 other cops came by with another kid, and they told the officer on top of me that they had seen the guy in their custody throw the snowball at him from the other side of the parking lot. The cop that seemed to be in charge told the one on me to let me go, so he picked me up off the ground, took the cuffs off, and said "get back in your dorm. You don't belong out here." Then he walked away with the other two without an apology.

Just gets to me, the whole authority thing. I suppose he didn't really hurt me and no harm was done, but what gives cops the right to treat people like such crap?

Either way, I must say for all those times I've had, I've also had times where I was glad to see em show up, and treat people that way that really needed to be. Gotta take the good with the bad I guess.

To say they have nothing to do is ironic, their presence alone keeps people in line.

Don't take out some bad experiences with authority figures in your past on the people who keep society moving forward and help/protect you when others will not.

I'm surprised, normally the cop hating comes from 16 year olds

If you don't want to hear it then don't complain because of something you could have prevented.

It's not a matter of if someone speeds or not, but 17MPH+ over? You might as well do donuts infront of the police station.

I might go 2-3, sometimes 5 over, mainly due to inconsistencies in the road. Next time go the speed limit, pay attention to the guys that are speeding, assuming all the stop lights are in their favor, the only difference is they are getting out of their car as you are pulling up. Not worth the gas, risk, and stress/pressure/headache.

PS: If you don't want to hear my replies there is a reason why vbulletin included an ignore list feature.
