snaptint.com

hey, for all you do it your selfers or friends of them, has anyone purchased from snaptint.com? They seem fair for selling everything (tools and shipping) for around $112. They use solar gard too. I got a quote from my nearest auto tint place for any percentage and the whole car for 200 bucks and lifetime replacement against fading etc. Is it worth the 80 bucks for labor and warranty? thanks

Wow, $200 is great compared to the quotes I got around here. The lowest was $260, then $265, $299, and $365!!!

that's the cheap tint or the old dyed polyester film..they tend to turn purple over time. the new tint films are a lot better than that.

do you prefer one method of heat shrinking over another?
dry, powder, wet, soap/drying sheet?

if you never done it before then don't even think about doing it yourself.
if you're concerned about the price ($200) then save up your $ and go to a pro. learning how to tint is not something that you pick up over night. it takes a lot of time and $ spent on tint. during the learning stage you can waste over 100ft of tint just practicing.

i understand that, my car isnt worth the 200 dollars to tint it good when the rest of the car is all beat up.. just wanna know if gettin precut tints would look decent when put on.

that depends on the install. you can get the best tint money can buy...but if the install is crap then it'll look it.

i would hate for you to spend 100 bucks on DIY tint and have it come out looking like crap when you could've spent a little more and got it done right professionally.

if your car is not worth the 200 dollars then why are you looking to put tint on it? just leave it alone and save some $.

yes materials..

1h30 mins for a tinter at most

usually 50 mins though. pro tinter does 10-12 cars a day on a good day, 20$ an hour. the rest goes to the shop unless its specialty graphics

Man $200 is worth it. There is way too much in tinting that people don't realize. there is a lot of teknique in it and if you have never done it... most of the time it looks like ****.

do you have any clue what you are talking about? Materials, and it's not $20 an hour, it's about 20% of the sale, Then cost of bills... Don't bash us, do you know the cost of a 60X100 roll of Llumar Platinum Pus film? More that you than you would probably guess.

i'm sure it's same for a VW beetle.

i'm going to play with dry shrinking...(just anchoring the H and trying to shrink the rest).

did the dryer sheets once...what a mess.

Yea, it's not that hard, on windows that have a lot of shrinking I ALWAYS mowed a finger and got a big *** crease. lol Dryer sheets suck. haha

damn so Llumar is $$$$.
I know it's good...just don't feel like paying more for it. I've used Sungard, Solargard, and Madico. I'm going to try Johnson. the Solargard 60X100 checks in around 500ish.

yup, very expensive, Johnson sucks, don't waist your time, fades sooooo fast. No 3m either. Solarguard isn't that bad, seems to be the best out of the 3 you tried. Sunguard isn't terrible either. I head madico blows tho.

ok so i won't mess with Johnson then.

Currently working on solarguard...seems to be easier to use compared to sungard.

madico is not fun to work with either

Johnson delaminates really fast, And yes sloarguard is easier to move and shrinks better than sunguard, it doesn't crease as easy either.

Of course it varies. you don't pay a tinter a % unless you call him to your shop or whatever. if you hire someone, it is hourly/salaried @ in the 20$ range for a good person that can do a bunch of cars in a day.

while there is a lot of disparity, over 200$ for a maxima (and that's pushing it) is well into the gauging range. place that does a lot of cars charges 160 for it. another 15 miles to the south quoted me 380 when i dropped by just for fun. yes he had to call his tinter in, meaning it was subcontracted. but most people don't know...

people have the right to know what actually goes into material and labor and the rest into shop profit.

LPP is a terrible example to use as it is a specialty film and not a standard application material.

Well like I said, here you are paid 20% if you are working for a tinter, not subcontracter, but actually employed by the tinter. Every shop around here is like that. Guess it's just different everywhere you go. Where I work we charge $199 for a Maxima, And so does every shop around us. I agree that $380 is totally stupid, and i don't know of any place around here that will charge over $200 for a maxima. I also agree that people need to know what the money they spent goes to, only to an extent. The owner shouldn't need to tel every customer exactly what goes where. I'm sure you weren't saying they should, but I figured I would just voice my opinion. Anyways... Where about are you located? I think it's kinda interesting to see how much the price varies from place to place.
