OK I am prepping to install this bad boy. My question to all the SC owners here is did you change your Oil Weight or Viscosity when adding the SC. I was thinking that maybe a little thicker oil may help to protect the motor, especially since the mobil 1 is so thin. Opinions, suggestions? All appreciated.

I think I have been using 10W30 but I may have to check tonight to make sure, but from what I understand is that when the engine is cold you can't race o go over 2500 RPM's b/c you need to oil to thin out and lubricate all the bearings and so forth. But maybe a few others can help me here?

Didn't make but one change in regards to oil

Instead of changing the oil every 3,000 miles I am not changing it every 2,800 miles. I have always used a 10W 30 weight oil since brand new. I have heard that it is better to change the oil more often b/c the SC does heat up the oil a bit more so more frequent oil changes are in order. Do that and make sure you have a tranny cooler (for MT and AT Max's) and a valve body modification for AT's. Do that and you will have a long and happy life with your SC.

Oil weight is the viscosity or how it flows when cold or warm.

Your concern regarding thickness is about the ability to protect the engine correct? Well that has to do with the oil's film strength. Synthetics are much better for this.

Example. If the oil is thick(ie.. 20-50 dino) that by no means that it has a higher film strength than a Amsoil 5-30.

Further, as a point of reference: Amsoil halves their recommended intervals when going with boost, which means no more than 12k with 6k filter changes, or every 6 months with a filter change at 3 months (this primarily depends on your driving habits: less mileage means change on time, more mileage means change by mileage).

If you go Mobile 1, I would shave that down to 8k on Mobile 1 with 4k filter changes.

No matter what, I would go 4k with SYNTHETIC 5W-30 on the blower and then get Blackstone Labs to analyze it and let you know how the oil is doing. In addition, you should get your current oil examined as a baseline to compare......You should change your intervals based on the lab results...

There may be a local dealer in your area, and you can do a dealer search at Amsoil's website. Otherwise, you can only get it through them. It's usually worth it to pay the preferred customer fee.....

oil weight

i had concerns about that before, so i called vortec, they said to continue to use the recommended oil weight, because it has to flow through the engine properly. through all the passages, etc., and the s/c just sprays a thin amount onto the gears and then flows right back to the engine. so stay with 5w30 or 10w30. an oil cooler is the right move to cool the oil. yea boy!

Agreed, no need to change oil weight but as Climax said, DO NOT go over 2500rpms until the car has reached normal operating temp. You have been warned!
